Sonntag is a great athlete who pairs that with excellent hustle. He works hard on defense, whether it’s closing out three-point shooters, boxing out, chasing down loose balls, or sliding over to contest shots from the weak side at the rim. He’s a kid who just reacts to what’s happening out there and is great in scrambles or anticipating balls in his areas to get deflections or key tips on rebounds.

Mason is a very athletic 6’5″ wing who has been growing his game in many different ways. He isn’t afraid to attack the rim and finish at the rim, dunking on players if they stay under the rim. He has a smooth pull-up mid-range shot that is very hard to defend as his athleticism helps him rise above. He will be playing with Idaho Premier this weekend in Hamilton, OH.

Sonntag’s a really good rebounder and defender, showing the anticipation, quick reactions, and athleticism to make a big impact around the rim. He’s also decently poised when attacking around the paint. He can power up to the rim and finish with strength but also shows the presence to feel space and go up quickly for short touch shots.

Mason has been elevating his game in a big way, making himself much more well rounded on the offensive side of the ball. He finishes around the rim at a high percentage, using his size and frame to his advantage. He gets his shot off from deep quickly, forcing defenders to stay on their toes when guarding him.

He was highly successful putting himself in space around the rim, both on the break, late in transition, and getting behind the defense in the half-court. He shot an incredibly high percentage because of his work to get open right by the rim and to fill lanes on the break, and has some good athleticism to finish high at the basket.

Sonntag had a quiet game until overtime when he came up with a great stretch of plays to help put Puyallup over the top and send them onto the state tournament. He’s a pretty long, athletic kid and he started off the overtime period with a strong rebound off the Curtis miss and immediately looked like he had the energy to make a difference in extra time. Their next defensive possession he closed out on a 3-point attempt and got a couple fingers on the ball for the block. He ended the period with two blocks, getting one more on a shot from the blocks. Sonntag showed some toughness on offense too with a nice step through move inside for a bucket and continued his effort on the glass with a huge put back to go up four late in overtime. He was clearly the difference in the final moments of the game. They’ll play Jackson in a first-round State game on Friday at 8:00 pm.
