Coronado has been powered by Smith all season. Averaging 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds, he’s delivered steady double digit performances with multiple 20+ point outings. He plays fast, gets to his spots and is lethal coming off screens where he can rise and fire or attack a closeout. His pace and scoring instincts keep defenses on edge. If he finds space early and establishes rhythm, Coronado’s offense becomes tough to slow down

Lyrik has been a prospect that we said we would follow as he had himself a stellar summer. He jumped on the radars then and has not looked back since, and we expected a solid senior season, and he’s been beyond that. For starters, he made 1st Team All-State for football and stepped back on the hardwood and has been dominant. He’s putting up a team-high 22.9 points a game with some insane stat lines and has been the reason for a few wins. He’s also the same force on the boards that we saw over the summer as well. He’s averaging 7.6 rebounds, dishing out 3.8 assists, and it at 4 steals a game as well. He plays with effort the entire time, and his hard work has him as one of the top risers in the class. Huge leap for him.

Lyrik is a dynamic scorer who has a variety of impressive moves he uses to get a step ahead of his matchup. Currently ranked in the top 40 in his class, don’t be surprised if Smith takes a massive jump in the rankings within a matter of weeks. This caliber of 2-way consistency will take Smith far, and in the meantime, get your popcorn ready.

Lyrik was one of the most intriguing players of the summer for me. He’s a defensive menace that plays with purpose, made it a point to be physical with opponents, and had them work for everything that they got. He’s a versatile defensive prospect who can defend positions 1-4, and he also had some offensive games where he attacked and got to the FT line, finished around the rim, and gave his team energy. Coronado is going to need to see all of these things this season if they want to make a change, and with the way that he sets the tone on that end of the floor, he should be a standout in the conference.

Lyrik is a true competitor who makes opposing guards and wings work to get anything against him. He has good size at 6’3 and is a force on the defensive end. He picks guards up, switches on to bigs, and plays above his size. Those impactful plays pop in a showcase setting where the idea is around only scoring, and that is where he can separate himself from the bunch as a defensive standout who’s willing to make winning plays. He’s a player that I enjoyed watching this summer, and the state needs to see a bit more of him as I feel he can play at the next level. We’d love to see him make an appearance.

Smith stood out with his energy and physicality in multiple games this weekend. He’s a tough two-way guy who doesn’t get sped up. He had some big-time finishes in traffic, but what really popped was his ability to set the tone emotionally. His squad fed off his energy. When he got into a heated battle, he got better. He was able to finish through contact and force stops. He’s a tone-setter who competes every possession and he progressed in each game that I watched him in. He was fun to watch.

Lyrik has a really nice basketball frame at 6’3. He’s long and agile, and was at his best creating for his teammates off the dribble on Sunday morning. Did a nice job of beating his initial defender off the dribble to force the defense to collapse, and from there was able to locate an open teammate on the perimeter. Always seemed to have his eyes scanning the floor when attacking. Showed some wiggle to create his own shots as well, hitting a couple of pull-up jumpers from mid-range.

Smith had a solid breakout showing and really put his skill set on display. He was a scoring machine all weekend, finding ways to get buckets from all over the floor. Smith was knocking down jumpers, finishing at the rim, or pulling up in the midrange or deep, he had it all working. He brought the energy on defense too, staying in front of his man, playing physical, and staying active with his hands to force turnovers. He played with confidence and hustle on both ends and it was definitely a standout performance and a name to remember
