had a big day at The Showcase. Based on his physical attributes, you wouldn’t have been able to tell Lamont was playing against a lot of players who were older than him. He used that size advantage to control the paint on both ends of the floor with interior finishing, rebounding, and rim protection, proving why he is a Top 10 player in South Carolina’s junior class.

of Lamar and Palmetto Pride
. Lamont’s peak ceiling might not be as high as some of the others in the list, but there is no doubting his ability to impact the game and how it will translate to the next level. Williams is as big and strong as any wing in the junior class, but he has a developed feel with the ball in his hands and one of the best motors you will see. It’s only a matter of time before the right college falls in love with what Lamont can do, and he could make a real case for 1A Player of the Year in either of the next two seasons.
Lamont has been a hot prospect at Phenom events this month. He was running with Upward Stars Pee Dee
17U this weekend, and you wouldn’t have been able to tell he was the youngest player on the court. Williams was a real, physical presence off the bench for the Stars, looking to get smaller matchups into the post, crashing the glass on both ends of the floor, and helping protect the rim. Keep an eye on Lamont’s name to pick up some recruiting buzz if he continues to play this well heading into the high school season.
Addison’s Palmetto Pride
teammate, Williams, is also a stock riser this month. I finally got to see Lamont in person for the first time this season, and he was even better than I thought he was. While he does need some polishing with his overall game, Lamont is already a dominant player who went for 14.5 points per game, 10.9 rebounds per game, 3.2 assists per game, 2.6 steals per game, and 1.5 blocks per game as a sophomore.
Matching up with Gause in the last game of the day was Williams. This was my first in-person look at Lamont, a player whom I have been eager to see all season long. He is clearly one of the most interesting prospects in the sophomore class because of size and athleticism, but what caught my eye most was his passing ability. Williams always made the right decision as a driver, whether it was to pull up, finish at the rim, or find a teammate, all of which paid off with an overtime win against a very good Marion team. Lamont will have to improve his handle and perimeter shooting down the road, but right now, he is an exceptional talent who racked up 18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks in the win.
