Herring gave Kinston another scoring burst with 21 points and five assists while also adding two steals. He played with good pace, got into the lane, and made smart decisions with the ball while helping apply pressure on both ends of the floor.

Winning championships requires teams that not only have players with skill but also players that play the game with passion, which is what you see from this young man on a nightly basis. He brings the energy and intensity consistently, is a gifted scorer but understands how to use defense to force turnovers that create transition opportunities where his team is able to really showcase their athletic talents.

Herring is one of those guards that checks so many boxes in your backcourt and he delivered a truly complete performance in Kinston’s 73-62 final four victory over Martin County to give themselves a berth in the 3A title game. Herring finished with 22 Points, 3 Assists, 2 Rebounds, and 3 Steals on 7-14 from the floor, 3-7 from deep, and 5-7 from the line. Herring’s size, athleticism, vision, and shooting touch continue to all progress along at the rate you want along with his game really maturing in general. Herring still plays with a ton of flare, edge, and fire while being in total control of the game at both ends of the floor for his team. The improved consistency as an outside shooter makes life for him easier with how dynamic he is when attacking the rim. Herring continues to evolve into a complete guard at Kinston, a place with high expectations that Herring is truly fulfilling thus far in his Junior season. With one game to go, Herring will do everything he can to bring another championship back to its rightful home at Kinston.

In most of Kinston’s games this season they’ve been led by junior guard Keyshawn “Baby Key” Herring. Known for being an explosive athlete in the open floor, he’s also shooting the three at an impressive rate on the season making him one of the more dynamic scorers remaining. He’s a microwave scorer who only needs to see one go in before he’s feeling it and one of the top 2027 prospects remaining in the classification.

Herring is a really talented backcourt piece that is starting to really come into his own as a prospect. Herring and Kinston are sitting at 9-1 with a big matchup vs Farmville Central going down tomorrow night. Herring can play both on or off the ball, get above the rim with consistency off one or two feet, and act as a two way connector for this group. He can flat out take over the game by picking up the pace and picking apart the opposition in the open floor. He’s starting to really develop the PG skills to an advanced level as well, that will only help his recruitment pick up more and more this summer. Herring is an athletic difference maker in the backcourt with a really high quality foundational skillset that is continuing to develop at a great rate. Herring and Kinston look to keep the wins rolling and go on a deep playoff run!

The combined Garner Road 3ssb squad feature players from both their 28′ and 27′ teams and Herring was “the guy” for that team. He’s a blur with ball in his hands and even more of a threat in transition but looked to be one of the better passers in the building as well. Whether in transition or in the half court he consistently threaded passes through the defense.

We will list him as the defacto lead guard based on the way he was utilized during the event. He’s a blur with the ball in his hands with some microwave scoring ability. Athletically he’s always a threat to throw down a dunk at the rim and a solid weak side or transition shot blocker. He helped lead his Kinston team to the championship as the team’s primary ball handler.

7th Nation had a somewhat under performing weekend going 1-2 but Keyshawn saved the day in the last game dropping 20 points with his usual antics. He got to the line repeatedly putting constant pressure on the rim and knocked down a few tough jumpshots as well. He averaged 12 points 2 rebounds 2.3 assists per contest.

A crafty two-way athlete who can really get after out of Kinston High; really shown his growth over the past few months as a creator and playmaker; really starting to show he can knock down shots on the perimeter; he’s one to keep an eye on with Team Loaded South on the 3SSB stage

-Turned in the strongest performance of the weekend for me in several lopsided wins for Team Loaded. Herring is an incredibly explosive athlete that can race it up the floor in transition, collected several apex blocks as an off-ball defender, and punished the rim with two or one-handed spikes. The handle is advanced and allows him to stop on a dime even at top speed to deliver an on-balance jumper from all three levels. The finishing package around the rim allowed him to score over or around defenders around the basket. Defensively he is a matchup nightmare that uses his quickness to jump passing lanes or blitz ballhandlers to turn his opponent over. Love the tenacity and fire that he plays with even in lopsided games.
