A common theme involving Rayfield’s upside has been his potential as a versatile defensive weapon. That was on full display this past weekend as he defended the paint and also switched out onto big time guards and gave them fits. He has great mobility for his size, and combined with his long wingspan and understanding of angles makes him capable of not only staying with but at times stonewalling quicker guards. Along with his exploits on the perimeter, Rayfield continues to hit the glass and block shots at an increased rate and intensity. The promising wing-forward prospect continues to have a High Major grade with the upside to one day get paid beyond college.

The athletic hybrid forward prospect is fresh off a very productive Atlanta EYBL Session with Team Griffin . He’s a lanky forward prospect, who is a true two way impact player with his rim protection and rebounding on the defensive end. And he has above the rim finishing ability with a sneaky good jumper on the offensive end. Rayfield recently picked up new offers from South Carolina State and Cal-Riverside. If he repeats his Atlanta performance, odds are he’ll spend his weekend in Indianapolis adding to that list.

Watching prospects grow up and continue to develop in spans as short as 48 hours is one of the best parts of this job. On Thursday night it was noted that while Rayfield played well early, he struggled in the second half and his frustrations were apparent. Fast forward to Saturday night. In a high pressure game he was often face guarded and played physically due to his height, but he remained more even killed and produced for Putnam City West in the win. Rayfield even forced it less on the offensive end, instead he had better shot selection and awareness. Which included a simple but great off the dribble move that got him a good look in the mid-range.
After defensive rebounds, he was more willing to pitch it ahead and put trust into his teammates. One of those times paid off during West’s huge third quarter run and a teammate drilled a transition three. Rayfield was one of the happiest players in the gym at his teammate’s success. Little moments like that add up to big success and continue to put the high upside wing-forward on a high major trajectory.

It was takeover mode for Rayfield in the second quarter. He grabbed boards, pushed it in transition, had easy slams when given space around the basket, and helped Putnam City West edge ahead to end the first sixteen minutes. It was the type of complete performance that can elevate a whole team in a big game. But he faded a bit in the second half, especially as the whistle started to go against him.
For elite level prospects like the high upside junior, body language and how they react to adversity can be factors in what separates them. The junior is a passionate player, which is good when things are rolling right. But in the second half, the frustration seemed to negatively impact his play. Especially as he had a couple turnovers and forced some tougher shots that didn’t match the looks he had success on in the second half. A bounce back game awaits on Friday night, with the chance to keep Putnam City West’s playoff dreams alive.

Rayfield is one of the top prospects in the state because of his unique natural gifts and how he leverages them on both ends of the court. The junior can pin shots at the rim, grab rebounds and push it himself , or switch out onto guards and cover them. Offensively he remains a plus shooter for a player his size, while asserting himself more and more around the rim with his ability to play above it. Dunks are a regular occurrence, as he has an easy huge stride that makes it look effortless when he’s attacking an open lane or eating up ground in the halfcourt. Simply put, there are few players in Oklahoma who can impact a game in the multitude of ways that Rayfield does.

A year ago, the biggest knock on the 6 foot 8 forward with a huge wingspan was that he didn’t embrace the dirty work. Now, the main reason West was in the game was because Rayfield was all over the glass on both ends of the court. And he mixed in big time blocks. From cleaning the glass on the defensive end, to getting second chance points Rayfield left his impact on the game with a big time performance from a motor standpoint. The junior Patriot scored a game high 25 points.

leading the way. He had a team high 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. So far, he’s 3 for 3 in recording double doubles this season. The junior is quickly becoming one of the most dominant forces in Oklahoma, and even picked up a University of California offer earlier today,

2025 Kaidon Rayfield was for sure a standout impact player and has unique skillset for a player his size. Upon first glance you’d think at 6’8 he was just your typical post player but as the game went on he showed he has much more then post presence to offer as a prospect. He made a living on the free throw line on Day 1 as Kimball seemed to understand they were out matched size wise. He plays on the perimeter most of the game with good guard skills he was able to drive to the rim, kick out to the open teammate or even dump off pass the ball in the post. You can see he like to finish aggressively as he almost finished some big time dunks over people several times. Defensively he showed some versatility, helping out in the post being able to block any shots that come near him but he also played up top near the arc quite a bit and had some success slowing down Kimball’s athletic guards. Great footwork and mobile ability for his size, Kaidon has lots of potential to be a top Prospect at Putnam City West and you should have him on your radar for the season.

Rayfield had a promising sophomore campaign but was an up and down performer. The biggest knock was despite often being the tallest player on the court, he didn’t always take advantage and dominant the paint like he should. But since bowing out a game short of the State Tournament last March, the now junior looks like he’s been fed gunpowder. He’s made it a mission to swats shots, corral rebounds and triyto dunk everything on the offensive end. He can still venture out and hit jumpers or attack off the dribble, but Rayfield is now an aggressive, complete forward for the Patriots.

In early March, Putnam City West’ quest for another Class 6A State Tournament appearance came to a bitter ending in Area. At that time Rayfield was one of the top upside players in this class, but still had a lot question marks in his game. Especially when it came to translating his immense potential into production. That loss was a big example of the question marks surrounding him, as he was a half a foot taller than any opponent, but his impact down the stretch in that contested was muted.
It appears that the loss, was part of a catalyst that has changed the scouting report on Oklahoma’s top junior. Now there’s no questions when it comes to the impact that the 6 foot 8 stretch forward with a huge wingspan makes. He’s made huge strides, especially on the defensive end where he’s embraced his natural gifts and become a high level rebounder and rim protector. Offensively, he’s finding the right mix of post ups, face up driving, and draining three pointers. Power 5 offers have rolled in for Rayfield, and the sky is the limit for the Putnam City West Patriot who seems to have fallen in love with the process of getting better and competing.
