Mackenzie helped Waunakee to a 2nd place finish in the Badger-Large conference. He led his team in scoring with a near 17 point per game average. He did so while scoring 20 on 10 occasions. His season high 27 points came in a win over Mount Horeb. The 6′ 4” wing averaged 6 boards per contest and reeled in 10 rebounds in 6 games this season. The back to back first team recipient holds a division 2 offer from Northern State.
MacKenzie has played well all winter for coach Tyler Selk’s squad at Waunakee. His defense, ball movement, cuts to the basket, vision and scoring ability off the dribble, and feel for the game are all strong. He led Waunakee with 16 points in the loss to DeKalb, and his offense has been consistent throughout the campaign. MacKenzie is still undecided about whether he will play football, basketball or maybe even both at the next level. Whatever he decides, the school than lands MacKenzie will get a player who makes winning plays with his skill, unselfishness and intelligence.
MacKenzie certainly can score — he had 15 points against Marshfield despite being hounded by one of the state’s top defenders in Brooks HinsonBrooksHinson

— but it’s all the other stuff he does that stands out the most when watching him compete. He is a big-time pest on defense and his anticipation and movement often leads to steals and deflections. He also is a more than capable rebounder on both ends as he explodes off the floor well and understands where the ball will be coming off the rim. His leadership, toughness and strong desire to do whatever it takes to help his team get a victory are all extremely impressive each time he steps onto the court.
MacKenzie isn’t overly flashy on the basketball court, but he is overly productive. He gets it done on both ends of the court thanks to his vast knowledge of the game, his 6-foot-4 size, his athleticism and his skill. He gets to the rim in transition, makes three-point shots and cuts well to the basket. On the other end, MacKenzie ranks as one of the better defenders in Wisconsin as he can shut down perimeter scorers with his ability to play man defense as well as anybody. He had 20 points and four triples against La Follette and appears primed for a big second half of his senior season for coach Tyler Selk and the Warriors.
Like his team, MacKenzie plays with a steady pace, a high basketball IQ and with efficiency on the offensive end of the court. He finished with a game-high 20 points and was able to use his strength, length, size and aggressiveness to beat defenders off the dribble and finish at the rim. Defensively, MacKenzie is a versatile performer in that he has the quickness and lateral mobility to guard on the perimeter while also having the size and toughness to defend near the basket. MacKenzie is one of the state’s top uncommitted seniors and is currently weighing his options to play either football or basketball at the next level.
