Aiken got going early on converting on a number of inside looks— rolling fast and hard out of ball screens, extending possessions through his rebounding and finishing on the offensive glass, banana cutting in the short corner area to convert on dump offs from penetrating guards all while also showing a strong comfort attacking closeouts off the bounce and getting to the mid range area.

Rebounding is where it all started for Aiken— where his rebounding numbers featured a mixture of securing possessions on the defensive end coupled with tip ins and generating second chance possessions on the offensive glass. Continuing to demonstrate an ability to make a significant impact without requiring a high volume of touches, Aiken offered value as a finisher in different offensive actions while also not letting his production take a dip on the defensive end of the floor and contesting shot attempts with discipline and length at the point of attack at the rim.

Most notably his ability to make a significant impact without needing a high volume of touches, consistently generating offense through his activity, timing, and feel off the ball. Aiken’s interior finishing remained one of the biggest takeaways, as he consistently converted around the rim with both efficiency and touch— capitalizing off designed downhill cuts in different half court sets, leveraging his strength on the offensive glass to win rebounding battles and capitalize on second chance opportunities, running the rim line with purpose in transition offense, and even as a strong, smart and instinctive diver in PnR action(s).

Among the more productive underclassmen on the day, Aiken thrived as a plug-and-play two-way forward off the bench in the Pirates’ resounding win over Christian Brothers. He was impactful on the defensive end with a nice blend of size, mobility, and strength to toggle between responsibilities on the interior and perimeter. Aiken showed strong positional awareness and comfortable use of physicality on both ends, flourishing offensively as a rim-runner and an efficient finisher around the rim from a variety of actions. He didn’t show much by way of finesse but flashed workable touch while converting consistently at the foul line. We’re eager to see more from Aiken moving forward as he adds varsity experience and potentially develops toward the scholarship level.
