Expert Analysis
Scott Hankamp | Prep Hoops Scout
Smith is a next level talent that college coaches need to see this season. He has a solid frame and he knows how to use it. Smith can seal bigger defenders and can drive low front shoulder and shred off defenders. He’s a natural athlete, but he doesn’t have to depend on that as he’s a well schooled basketball player as well.

Smith is a player to keep an eye on this season and he looked VERY solid at the open gym. He has a strong frame and he used it last night. Smith used a pound dribble, got position and sealed his defender leading to an easy bucket. He lowered his front shoulder and took the ball to the rim on a straight line drive. Smith showed athleticism as well. He had an in air put back basket and another lightning fast put back bucket. Smith did a great job finding space weakside when Allen drove and drew the D, which led to dump off passes and easy layups.

Smith had a HUGE summer and fall season. He really exploded onto the scene for me this fall. Smith is an elite athlete and playmaker. He’s so dangerous when he gets downhill with the ball in his hand. Smith’s combination of athleticism and strength make him incredibly tough to slow down.

Smith is an elite athlete and he knows how to use it on the defensive end of the floor. Better yet, he’s a terrific communicator when playing D and is very aware of his positioning and location of the help.

Smith deserves to have eyes on his game this coming high school season. He’ll be playing with a loaded backcourt including Jaylohn Allen Jaylohn Allen 6'1" | CG Wayne Memorial | 2026 State MI and Carlos Medlock Jr Carlos Medlock Jr 5'10" | PG Link Academy | 2026 #53 Nation MO . Smith will have a big influence on one of the best teams in the state, and that influence will come on both ends of the floor. He’s a high IQ player and a positively vocal player.

Smith was impressive at The Expo in Grand Rapids. It was probably his defense that drew the most attention. He was really engaged on that end of the floor. Smith was communicating with his teammates at all times on D.

Smith was one of the better on-court communicators I watched at the showcase. Out of all the intangibles, I would consider being a great communicator the most impactful as well as the most rare to find among players today. Specifically, Jeremiah was doing everything from talking through screens on the defensive end to directing traffic on offense. I am excited to see how the Wayne Memorial guard progresses throughout the upcoming prep season.

Honestly, probably more of a wing but was forced in the paint when I’ve seen him play. Regardless, the kid can flat out play ball. Smith does great work when he gets downhill and in the lane. He uses a jump stop and plays off 2 feet. Really his overall offensive footwork and control because of it is very impressive.
