Wienen earns a spot inside the top 50 of our initial Prep Hoops Class of 2029 rankings after putting together an impressive spring and summer on the AAU circuit. The hard-nosed combo guard from Galena immediately stands out with his relentless competitiveness and unwavering motor, playing every possession with toughness and purpose regardless of the situation. His natural instincts and anticipation allow him to impact the game on both ends of the floor while his continually developing skill set suggests there is still plenty of room for growth. Fittingly Wienen’s AAU program he plays for is named Team Compete and that mentality perfectly reflects the style of play he brings on the floor. This past scholastic season, his JV team finished a perfect 30-0 while he earned valuable varsity minutes as a true freshman. One of the few small-school prospects to crack our initial rankings, he possesses the competitiveness, work ethic, and long-term upside to develop into a legitimate scholarship-level player when it’s all said and done.

6’2″ combo guard out of Galena. Showcased an explosive first step to the rim with some bounce Saturday morning vs Ball Elote. I love the strides he makes to the rim which gets him to the bucket in a much easier way. Also shows excellent hustle getting up and down the floor to create transition opportunities and stop them defensively. 

I caught Wienen play a few months back with his Team Compete squad up in Wisconsin. The 6’2 combo guard continued to be a tough out in multiple facets over the weekend at The Tune Up. He impacts with a relentless motor to push the tempo off of defensive rebounds, consistently getting north/south hitting angles quickly, and providing opportunities for others off penetration drives. Wienen works well in the primary break phase which was highlighted by multiple coast to coast finishes, a breakaway and1, and a give and go finish. In the ½ court setting he is comfortable spotting up from three or catching and facing then making a move. A hard competitor on the glass as well, he will endure physicality and meet the challenge vs bigger bodies in the paint. On the defensive side of things he jumps passing lanes and will fight over screens. His body language shows that he won’t back down while his combination of toughness and ability to impact both sides of the ball makes for one of the more intriguing guards to track in the class of 2029 out of Illinois.

2029 SG Jeb Wienen Jeb Wienen 6'2" | SG Galena | 2029 State IL was a top performer for Team Compete on Day 2. Standing at around 6’2, he uses his height to shoot over defenders attempting to close out. He also makes his presence felt on the defensive end, where his length allows him to limit opposing scorers and contest shots. Overall, Wienen possesses a well-rounded skill set, and with plenty of development still ahead of him, his upside is encouraging.

Wienen stood out in the games I was able to watch him on Saturday. Wienen is extremely skilled and physical for his age. A true three level scorer, Jeb found ways to make an impact scoring the basketball throughout the second day of the event. Wienen has very smooth stroke from downtown and does an excellent job of using his frame to finish through and around contact. Despite the loss against Chapman South, Wienen had 12 points scoring in a variety of ways. Jeb is an excellent defender as well using his motor and quickness to keep guys in front.

A willfull energetic competitor that enjoys the toughness of the game. High motor athlete who brings fundamentals and some flare. Did not back down and continued to fight through to next play. Plays with his head on a swivel while handling. Will make an extra pass if needed or will go through contact to endure physicality. Knocked down multiple 3’s with 1 being from NBA range. Will go into jab steps, rip throughs, pump fakes, or spin moves and is comfortable missing it up to gain space or a step. Versatile player with a great handle who will will impact diverse of areas of game.
