Chad Graham | Prep Hoops Scout
A defensive stalwart going back to his sophomore season, Reid continued to put a lid on the rim as a junior. The difference was that his defensive impact extended beyond the paint. Using those huge mits, Reid started gloving passes at the top of the press and when defending out on the perimeter. The leap he took on offense can’t be understated either. His rim-finishing improved significantly, becoming automatic from the dunker spot and on putbacks.

With 10 points and 2 steals of his own in the first quarter, Ried’s urgent start was emblematic of how the rest of the game would go. His ability to use his immense wingspan away from the basket clogged passing lanes and crescendoed into him getting a couple fastbreak buckets. The story of the second quarter was Reid dominating offensive glass with multiple second-chance points. After that, Reid limited Dover’s points in the paint by deterring drives and making his presence felt when he got tested. He finished with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 stocks (2s 2b).

Reid was a putback specialist versus Caravel. He snatched missed shots off the rim and laid the ball right back up. His efficiency on the glass was also indicative of his overall effectiveness in the paint, throwing down multiple dunks on drop off passes from teammates. And while others were lighting up the scoreboard in the third, he was busy putting a lid on the Caravel rim. He totalled 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

Reid got active early and often versus the Wildcats. After warming up with a putback, he maximized his physical abilities by deflecting a pass and taking it the other way for a fastbreak dunk. Reid’s hand-eye coordination showed up when he was high-pointing the ball to block shots. And he displayed his agility when scoring out of the post and on rolls to the rim. So with big outputs in the first and fourth quarters, he led the Hawks with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks.

Reid is an athletic post player who makes plays on both sides of the floor. His length comes into factor on the defensive end when gathering steals and altering shots. He has great timing when he goes to jump a passing lane. Reid is effective rim running in transition. He can find moving cutters. Reid scored a few nice buckets. He needs to wall up more around the bucket when he is protecting the rim. With continued developments he is on pace to be a scholarship prospect.

Reid’s rim-protection is his special skill, predicated on his ability to accurately and decisively use his hands inside the paint. So simply working on his off-ball movement and touch around the basket would go a long way toward his development into a two-way forward.

Reid got off to a slow start but was key down the stretch as St. George’s nearly pulled off a last-second comeback win. An active and athletic hybrid forward, he found effectiveness using his size, length, and instincts to crash into position for swift finishes around the cup. Reid also showed his valuable on the glass and as a secondary rim protector while flashing the ability to step out to the perimeter and keep defenses honest as a stationary shooter. He’s still a bit early in his development but certainly shows the tools to merit scholarship-level attention in due time.

He may be the furthest away from a finished product, but there’s no doubting that Reid’s upside could rival that of anybody on this list. A mobile and athletic forward packed with lean strength, he mostly thrives for now as an above-rim finisher off of dumpoffs or out in transition. Reid shows toughness while defending on the interior with the athleticism to contribute as a secondary rim protector. His physical tools and motor are the main allure for now, with D1 opportunities likely in his future if the 15-year-old can start to refine his skillset.
