About Jayden
Expert Analysis
Max Wagner | Prep Hoops Scout
Running with Minnesota Lightning over the weekend, Jayden showed how he averaged just shy of 27 points per game during his senior season. At 6’6 he has plenty of size out on the wing, and is an explosive athlete who can fly to the rim. Had a steal picking up full court and exploded to the rim for a two handed dunk. Throughout the game he was beating guys up in the floor for transition, and showed a quick first step to beat opposing wings to the rim with a straight line drive. Plays off two feet off the drive, allowing him to stay under control and keep his options open to kick it out if needed.

One of the more pleasant surprises of the Expo, Brown is a super bouncy wing with deep shooting range and the ability to soar well above the rim on drives to the basket. The always moving Brown is a solid rebounder and defender, both in the post and on the perimeter. He’s one of those players who always seems to be in on the play as he constantly is in motion. Brown recently committed to NCAA Division III St. Scholastica in nearby Duluth, Minnesota, and is primed for a huge senior season at Grantsburg.

A backcourt prospect with size, Brown has the height, skill and instincts to play facing the basket. He can perform at either guard position and has deep shooting range. Brown attacks the basket well and has good court vision when his path to the hoop is interrupted. As a junior, Brown received first-team all-Lakeland West Conference laurels after averaging 18.4 points and 4.7 rebounds while helping a young Grantsburg squad to a 12-12 record. Four starters return for coach Michael Myers with Brown being the cornerstone piece to a potential league-title team.

After stopping to watch a little action on another court, I went directly to the matchup that included Jayden and his Grantsburg team. It didn’t take long for me to identify him, as he immediately drove hard and converted. Shortly thereafter, he brought the ball up, penetrated to the elbow and hit a pull-up jumper. He continued to make plays, including a baseline take and finish and a quick cross-over move with a spin and deuce in the lane. I watched him again later in the day and he jumped a pass on the opening possession and took it to the other end for a bucket. Once he gets dialed in, he can hit from beyond the arc as well. Jayden could add a bit more mass, but I understand from talking with him that he is working on that. As he does so, it will be important that he keeps his athleticism and quickness.
