Expert Analysis
Elan Muniz | Prep Hoops Scout
McGrath carried a large portion of the offensive load, pouring in 27 points while knocking down five triples. The junior guard showed confidence creating his own shot and changing pace to find space for pull-ups. When the lane tightened he leaned heavily on perimeter scoring, but his shotmaking consistently forced defensive rotations.

McGrath is a very smooth PG that has been sensational for Hoggard High School all season long. In what was a kind of choppy game offensively for his team in the final four, McGrath still made all of the necessary plays at both ends of the floor to help guide his team to a 51-33 victory. McGrath is averaging 16.2 Points, 3.1 Rebounds, 3.2 Assists, and 2.6 Steals all on 47/32/73 shooting splits. McGrath simply knows how to play, he makes the right read at a high rate of consistency with the ability to make shots from all over the floor and make any pass on the floor. McGrath can be aggressive when attacking the basket or in terms of looking to find get into his pull up game. He’s really comfortable operating in ball screens and does an incredible job as a leader making sure everyone is in line. McGrath is a true bridge of the gap between the coaching staff and rest of the roster, that leadership and guidance will be needed if Hoggard can knock of West Charlotte in the 8A championship.

McGrath is a kid that just simply gets the job done. I have a feeling by this time next year he’ll have too much buzz around him to make an “unsung heroes” list. He might even be there now but McGrath plays the game with a really high level of competitive fire to blend with his ability to make plays. McGrath has great feel, understands when to push the pace and when to slow it down. He’s got a great outside touch and is very aggressive attacking closeouts leading to him getting to the line a good bit. In a statement win over Millbrook, McGrath finished with 26 Points on 10-18 from the floor while adding 4 Rebounds, 4 Assists, and 5 Steals. Statement performance from the junior guard who is starting to see more traction with his name.

McGrath was one of the guards I was really impressed with from the 910 area code. A high IQ guard who plays with a solid pace and the ability to knock down the three-ball efficiently from either guard spot. He was all over the floor for his Hoggard squad and helped lead them to the 1 seed in their respective pool.

Another prospect to know with Warriors Life Elite on the grassroots side; averaged 12.8 ppg, 2.9 apg and 2.7 spg on 34 percent shooting from deep as a sophomore at Hoggard in 2024-25; unselfish guard who can compete with anybody on the floor

An elite shooter with a smooth stroke and deep range that keeps defenses honest. This club season he suits up for Flight 22 , where he’s made a name for himself as a dynamic all-around contributor. McGrath combines scoring prowess with the ability to finish creatively at the rim through contact. What separates him is his high-level feel for the game—his basketball IQ and vision allow him to control the tempo and elevate those around him. Whether initiating the offense or playing off the ball, he consistently makes smart reads and delivers pinpoint passes. He competes with poise beyond his years and takes pride in defending on the perimeter. A lethal shooter with a smooth, a lightning quick release. McGrath often leaves closing out defenders shaking their head after draining 3’s over and over again. Whether it’s catch and shoot situations, or coming off of off ball screens, McGrath is always ready to shoot. Most recently, McGrath scored 24 points, shooting an efficient 10-16 from the field, further proving his scoring ability. Beyond his shooting, the sophomore has a shifty handle that keeps defenders off balance. Additionally, McGrath is a good finisher at the rim. On the defensive end, he is a strong on ball defender, using his quickness, anticipation and, awareness to disrupt opposing offenses. He’s also a very good playmaker and intelligent decision maker, making McGrath a top point guard in the class of 2027

McGrath is a fearless shooting threat in the 2027 class to keep an eye on at Hoggard High. He showed off his range on the perimeter as a shoot-first point guard. He didn’t back down from matchups on defense, either. Look for him to continue to grow on the hardwood as a perimeter-oriented floor general with range. He’s been on the platform for a while now and continues to impress with his all-around skillset in the backcourt.

McGrath is a floor general name for DI and DII programs in the region to start tracking out of Hoggard High in the Wilmington area. He’s a high IQ prospect who can get hot in hurry from deep and due for a breakout sophomore season on the HS stage. He’s lighting things up on the perimeter and in the playmaking department with Flight 22 on the grassroots scene this summer as he moves into the 21st spot, up from No. 45.

Mcgrath is quite the lead guard presence already for the Hoggard varsity squad as he makes his debut in the 2027 rankings No. 45. He’s a sharpshooter with a high-IQ for making things happen with the ball in his hands. He put up 7.2 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 1.4 APG and 1.0 SPG while knocking down 50 3-pointers on a 33-percent clip in his varsity debut. Look for his status to grow as a consistent scorer over the next few years.
