Expert Analysis

Bobby Lopez

Prep Hoops Scout

McVeigh is a name we’re keeping an eye on because his game has a really appealing foundation for the years ahead. The shot immediately gives him value, with the range to stretch a defense and punish teams when they leave him open. He plays under control, sees the floor and doesn’t feel the need to overdo things with the ball. That combination of shooting, decision making and patience could give him plenty of room to grow into a bigger role. If the rest of his game continues to catch up, McVeigh could become a very interesting name in this class

McVeigh showed some legitimate range and accuracy from behind the arc, but I liked that he didn’t spend the entire day hunting his own shot. He played with patience at the point position, moved the ball, and generally took what the defense gave him. There wasn’t a lot of unnecessary dribbling or trying to manufacture something that wasn’t there. When he had space, McVeigh was comfortable letting it go from deep. The combination of shooting and willingness to make the simple read gives him a good foundation to build from, and he’s a player I believe we hear from on varsity, if not this year, then next.
