This waa my first time seeing Coleman this season and he could be in for a monster one. I thought he did a tremendous job of blending the responsibilities of facilitating and scoring, behind his 15 points the Chargers got a hard fought win.

already holds a number of football offers but that won’t stop him from competing for a state championship on the hardwood. Coleman is a smaller guard but what he lacks in height, he makes up for with strength and athleticism. He’s terrific on the defensive end and competes hard on the glass. Offensively, Coleman constantly pressures the rim and will punish defenses that fail to stop the ball. With Coleman running the point and other key players returning, Portal enters the ’23-’24 season as one of the top teams in 1A-D2.

has been one of Class A-Public’s best point guards since Day 1. Elijah is a heat seeking missile when it comes to getting to the rim and drawing fouls. Although his attempts have dropped off each season, Coleman has shot a robust 403 free throws through 81 career games. While not getting to the line as much, Coleman has enjoyed improvement from beyond the three-point line, increasing his average each season from 23% to 28% to 34% as a junior. Elijah is coming off a campaign in which he averaged 13.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.7 steals, guiding the Panthers to a 28-2 mark. Coleman is drawing interest and offers as a football player.

It was far from the two-time All-State selection’s best performance, but Coleman did just enough to help Portal outlast Forest Park in overtime 58-56. Elijah had just 7 points, but four came between the fourth quarter and overtime. He had a pretty left-handed scoop layup in the extra period before snatching the game-clinching steal. Coleman managed to do other things than score, picking up 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and 1 block.
