-Barrett didn’t produce to his normal level in either game that I went to but still reached double figures and impacted the game as a switchable defender. He can match up with guards on the perimeter, chest up to block the shot of bigs in the paint on switches, and is especially effective at jumping passing lanes to disrupt offensive flow with deflections . Barrett hit corner 3s to space the floor, snagged some important offensive rebounds, and was effective attacking long closeouts with drives to the basket to score or kick opposite to shooters to force the defense to rotate late.

-Barrett returned to the lineup from injury to immediately make a splash for a very good Catonsville team with scoring outputs of 28, 20, and 23 in his first 3 games back. Loved his two way impact as he finished with 10 stocks (combined steals and blocks) in both the Hereford and Woodlawn games– blocking shots both on and off the ball while doing a great job of jumping passing lanes or timing dribble cadences to collect the steal and get his team out in transition. The range on his jumper has also really improved, knocking down deep C+S 3s from well beyond that arc without needing to put the ball on the floor for a dribble. His ability to attack the outside shoulder on long closeouts got him past his matchup and into the teeth of the defense where he either scored at the rim or drew fouls or both. His five FTs down the stretch sealed the win against Hereford to give him 28 points on the night as the Comets were missing their leading scorer. His ability to serve as a slashing connector for his team lead to several assists to teammates for easy buckets on the short roll or after he snagged an offensive rebound. One of the most impactful players in the county on a team that should be the favorite in Section 2.

Elijah showed why scouts are so high on his game. He looked great in the big win over O’Connell. Spalding followed strong behind Elijah electric play. He got out to it defensively and sparked a lot of baskets and opportunities for his team all game. Elijah scored in transition often and had no problem getting his shot off in the halfcourt. Shot 4/6 from the field with 3 steals in the blowout victory.

is one of the better guards in Maryland. Elijah struggled with his jump shot early in summer league, but he has found his stroke over the past few games. Elijah has great quickness and does an excellent job driving by players to get to the rim. He finishes well with both hands and has great touch. Elijah is a good three-point shooter, and he does a great job scoring at all three levels. Elijah had 19 points in a Spalding blowout.

-Barrett overcame a rough shooting performance beyond the arc by attacking the rim in the second half, blowing by his matchup repeatedly to finish with the left at the rim to cut the SM lead down from as much as 14 in the 2H to 6. Barrett collected 4 steals as an active helper in the run and jump press that brought the Cavaliers back, converting those turnovers into a quick buckets at the other end to give his team a shot at winning.

-Barrett’s offense gave the Cavaliers a much-needed spark towards the end of the first quarter, switching hands in midair to finish with the left in traffic then hitting a pull-up jumper after rejecting the ball screen. His on-ball and help defense have come a long way to be a consistent defensive stopper this season for Spalding, and his perimeter shooting and transition scoring were key to the 7-game win streak that the Cavaliers rode into the MIAA Playoffs

Barrett has been a consistent 2-way force for a surging Spalding Cavaliers group. Bouncing back in his second game back from injury, Barrett’s 3 point shooting and on-ball defense will be key to Spalding advancing past Mt. Carmel in the MIAA semifinal. If he can hit perimeter shots, finish well in transition, and generate turnovers–Spalding has a chance to upset the top seeds in the MIAA and BCL tournament games.
