The talented senior has had promise throughout his high school career with good quickness that has made him an exciting halfcourt slasher and fun to watch in transition. Along with the ability to cause plenty of havoc on the defensive end.
This June with Del City, he’s playing more unselfishly off the bounce. Taking better advantage of the attention he draws on drives and looking to feed open teammates. It’s a good improvement but he still has room to grow. As a couple times he would jump in the air in the lane and because he left his feet he forced wild passes leading to turnovers. Cleaning up that decision making will be crucial for Johnson to be an All State quality guard for the 5A contending Eagles.

Newcomer to the Eagles, providing a spark on both ends of the court. Gets up and aggressively guards, hounding ballhandlers and looking for turnover opportunities. Had promising spurts on offense, including a late triple. But his main offensive gift is his ability to pressure the rim. Quick first step with an unpredictable driving style gives him an edge on drives. Even made some nice feeds on those drives, leading to easy scores for teammates. Athletic, jack of all trades guards, who fits well with his new squad.

Quick and twitchy with the ball in his hands, Johnson has a good first step and good hang time elevation when at the rim. Brings even more energy and disruption off the bench for one of Class 6A’s top teams. Can crash the offensive glass for putbacks. Or create transition points with havoc causing plays on defense. Promising long term prospect, who now is in year two of playing with two great examples (Brown and Leonard) of how his game can grow.

Athletic and energetic, Johnson has been a whirlwind on both ends of the court for Team Griffin ‘s 15U squad at a couple different events. He’s flashing the developing athleticism to potentially be an acrobatic above the rim finisher. While also being disruptive on defense with steals and blocks. He’s at his best in transition, but he plays with his head up as a passer, hinting at his future as a more well rounded guard.
