Expert Analysis
Clayton Conover | Prep Hoops Scout
The athletic forward is too much to deal with for the vast majority of opponents out West and even throughout the rest of the state’s 6A opponents. A lob threat at all times, his ability to fill openings in the halfcourt around playmaking teammates makes him a dynamic threat at all times. What allows Fruita Monument to compete with the best of the best in the state is in large part from Thomason’s defensive abilities thanks to the size and athleticism down low. Capable of guarding up given the verticality and active hands, this team has some special traits that make them a formidable playoff opponent once the time comes.

Recently committing to RMAC program MSU Denver, Thomason looks to take Fruita Monument deep into the playoffs yet again. A bouncy swiss army knife forward, he retains his defensive abilities as a switchable defender and high motor asset on the glass. Posting 16.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, he is about as efficient around the rim as anyone out on the Western Slope. Making strides as a scorer from self-created looks, the forward is working to be a shotmaker off the dribble, namely with the pull-up jumper. Already a dependable weapon out of ball screens, he is a constant threat while rolling towards the basket, given the elvetain he gets. The Elite 8 program will go as far as Thomason can take them, although they are still quite possibly the best coached program out west, cementing themselves in another playoff run.

Thomason remains a pest defensively, proactive jumping passing lanes to kickstart fast breaks. As well as a bouncy athlete, he can get up to contest taller opponents, particularly on the weak side. What stood out at this event was the passing vision, ready and willing to create great looks for teammates off the drive and kick. His quickness at 6’6 makes him a tough opponent to slow down one on one, particularly as his handle has made improvements.
