is the epitome of a guy who has worked for his spot. He had a stellar junior season where he turned heads with his play. But this season, he has taken it to a new level. Wells is a Top-5 scorer in the state at 26.4 points a game, and what’s impressive is WHO he’s doing this against. He has 51 points in a high scoring game against Lutheran, 44 points in a close with against state champions, Kent Denver, and is coming off of two straight 30+ point games. He’s put up double figures in each game while being the focal point of the offense, and he plays the right way. It’s not just an offensive onslaught for him, though. He’s also averaging 7 boards, 3.4 assists, and 3.6 steals a game as well. He’s balanced and doing everything that his team needs from him for his team to win. We saw him have a stellar summer and Fall, and he’s carried that momentum into the season. He steps into the Top 15 as a riser.

Well, he did just that after he put up solid tournaments as well as showcases where he showed that he’s an impact player no matter the environment. Wells showed exactly why there’s buzz around his name. He’s a coach’s son, plays with purpose, and doesn’t take plays off. He hit deep threes, ran the floor, and scored efficiently in transition. In one of Collective’s biggest matchups of the weekend, he locked in defensively and made game-changing stops and plays. What stood out for me is how he takes over at times, but he also lets the game come to him. He doesn’t need the offense run through him to produce, but he keeps moving and puts himself in spots to succeed by reading the game, which makes him even more valuable. Jhett’s a gamer and someone we are excited to see a bit more of.

is a lockdown defender who has no problem putting up 6 or 7 steals in a game. Wells plays baseball for a Fruita Monument squad who ended up placing 1st in their conference finishing with a 19-5 record last season. On the hardwood, Wells has a quick first step with the ball, allowing him to burst to the basket for points. Wells truly is as fast as a “Jhett” when he showcases his athleticism.

Wells has been on a tear out West, leading this league in points per game while providing especially efficient shotmaking around the basket. Bringing both a quick first step and strong frame to handle contact for physical finishes, he is continuing to round out his shotmaking profile from all three levels. Already a knockdown shooter off the catch, he has made strides in creating space off the dribble, adept as the primary creator to set up the other important scoring options.

Wells has been excellent for Fruita Monument, getting more confident scoring off the dribble, weighed upon even more so than last season. Adept rising up for pull-ups in the mid-range, opposing defenses are often forced to go over on ball screens, fearing the consistent shooting from distance. This is all alongside the constant motor for defensive rebounds or alertness in the passing lanes, it was no accident this group made it to the Coliseum last postseason. Despite commanding a larger offensive role, Wells still has plenty of energy on the defensive end, holding his own against his fair share of backcourt matchups one on one.
