Velasco may be known as a football player at Strasburg, but he’s quickly gaining traction on the hardwood and elevating his play each time out. His big frame immediately stands out, giving him a strong physical presence that’s tough for opponents to deal with. He uses his size and strength to carve out space, secure rebounds and finish through contact. What adds to his impact is his soft hands, allowing him to catch, control and convert in traffic. As his confidence and feel for the game continue to grow, Velasco is showing he can be a reliable interior presence whose upside on the basketball court is becoming harder to ignore
Velasco was a willing downhill scorer, actively getting into the paint on drives and initiating contact. They did well attacking ideal matchups, searching for smaller or slower opponents to leverage drives in the paint. Additionally, his defensive rebounding positively affected his performances at past events this summer. With a notably high motor, the guard will find a way to get playing time through a consistent motor across the glass. The guard showed a willingness to stay in position on the help side, walling off the lane. Very exciting future ahead for Strasburg, bringing in quite a few high energy guards, willing to compete on both ends of the floor.
