Right behind Martin in the scoring column for the 4A champs was Kennard, a 6-foot-1 combo guard with floor-spacing ability, churned in 13 points on Saturday night. While he converted on just one shot from deep, Kennard built a reputation as a deadeye shooter particularly from the corners and demands gravity from the defense at all times. He’s quick and twitchy off the catch and has no issue slithering his way into the paint and drawing contact, as he did by going 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. He was massive in Blake’s final four win over Meade and once again, made his presence known here in the title game closing down the glass from the guard position and hauling in six rebounds himself.

15p 4r 1a 1b top key 3 then an OTB 3
-Kennard started things off hot, with back to back 3s in the 1Q that gave Blake a lead that they would rarely relinquish throughout the course of the game. When the perimeter jumper went cold in the 2H, Kennard showed the mental toughness to remain aggressive as a downhill driver and active as an off-ball cutter to complete three successful 2/2 trips to the FT line that helped Blake push the lead to double digits late into the 4Q. The utility in his game to make plays in PnR opportunities as a primary ballhandler or be an effective off-ball connector and shooter allows Blake to trot out dangerous 3-guard lineups that usually ramp up a frenetic pace in games to build nice leads.

Christian played a smart and physical game while picking the right spots to attack. He started strong with an and-one finish under the rim, then opened the second half by knocking down a corner three. What stood out most was Christian’s patience within the offense this game. He consistently made the right play after beating the first defender and didn’t force bad shots. To close the third quarter he used a pump fake to create space and finish at the rim, giving Blake a cushion heading into the fourth. In the final stretches of the game Christian excelled at getting two feet in the paint and finishing with touch around the rim. Looked comfortable scoring inside and out, especially to help close the game in the second half. He was steady, efficient, and made winning plays in key moments.

Kennard had a clutch performance against RM from beginning to end and played like a guy built for close games. Throughout the night he was consistently making momentum baskets and had a great feel for when to turn it on, especially in the later stretches when the game tightened up. He was confident with every look he got and didn’t hesitate when big shots came his way, knocking down key buckets late that helped swing the game. On the opposite end, Kennard was a menace defensively, playing tough physical defense and coming away with multiple steals that sparked transition offense. What stood out was how well he finished on the break, converting layups even through solid defense and contact. Overall, he impacted winning in every way and was one of the most reliable players on the floor when the pressure peaked.

This Blake team is equipped with a stable of senior guards alongside top-10 prospect Baba Oladotun who will further their case as favorites to earn a spot down at the Xfinity Center this March. There’s a great chance that Kennard’s production and contributions will play a factor in just how dynamic of a team they can become. If they make a run in Montgomery County like the majority believe they will, Kennard’s value and ranking will improve as a result. A quick-twitch primary ball handler, Kennard is a tough check in straight-line drives where he gets to the rim in a flash for quick scoop lay-ups. When he turns the corner or finds a driving lane, Kennard isn’t just fixated on scoring. He has the feel and anticipation to find his bigs along the baseline when their man steps over to halt the penetration. He’s a capable shot-maker that defenders must respect with a high hand on the perimeter, making him an all-around, but under the radar threat who has a chance to rise this season.
