19p 2r 1s 7/8 FG 3/4 3P vs Theodore Roosevelt
-It was my first time seeing Swangin play this summer and I came away very impressed by the lift that he gave his team in a closely-contested matchup with Theodore Roosevelt. Swangin’s speed in the open floor really stands out, he attacked gaps effectively to finish at the rim before help can close the seam, showed a great change of direction with his dribble and can get downhill in a hurry. Swangin’s confidence shown through on a pair of face up 3s late in the game that show the balance and consistency on his jumper. Excited to see him lead this year’s team as the group graduates the top 3 scorers from their state championship team a season ago.

The reigning class 4A champion Blake Bengals lost nearly all of their production from last season’s roster, but as we’ve seen with accomplished programs over the years, new names emerge ready to take on the challenge. This year it’ll be Swangin, 2030

and a few others who look to keep them atop of the pedestal in the MPSSAA landscape. Swangin is a combo guard with ability to gain advantages in 1-on-1s thanks to his good positional size, length and craft once he gets downhill toward the bucket. On several occasions, he finished contested looks inside 10 feet with impressive body control and soft touch as he found nearly impossible angles to convert. As teams start to focus on him, I’ll be monitoring how the other aspects of his game evolve this season.

Mostly under the radar while playing within the public school sector, Swangin really caught the eye as a prospect who could make a notable splash on the MoCo scene as an upperclassman. A bigger guard with great length and wiry strength, the southpaw was dynamic attacking off the bounce with elite quickness at the point of attack. He showed the ability to execute slick finishes in traffic with his primary hand and made solid reads as a playmaker once the defense collapsed on him in the paint. We didn’t see Swangin tested as a jump shooter, and would like to see him handle ball pressure a bit more responsibly as a lead guard, but the upside and downhill talent were evident and we look forward to seeing more of him in the future.
