Facing a 10-point deficit in the closing minutes of the 16U semifinals, Ellis went into the phone booth and came out with his Superman cape, steering a valiant comeback that culminated with his game-tying pullup 3 followed immediately by a steal and winning layup. Ellis would carry his steely competitiveness and robust skillset into the championship, helping the Beasts to emerge as the 16U circuit champions. The lead guard was a load to handle both in transition and the halfcourt, showing outstanding polish to his on-ball skill level along with growing confidence and efficiency as a pullup shooter from long range. In addition, the elevated stakes served as a platform to showcase Ellis' sheer toughness and competitive will to win. He surely made fans among the handful of D1 coaches in the crowd.

The consistent lynchpin for a dynamic Iverson 16U group that took a narrow loss in the MHC championship game, Niare capped his summer with a performance that showcased all the jumps he's made in his game over the past 6-9 months. Known at the start of that timeline almost exclusively for his energy and athleticism, he's evolved quickly into a full-fledged inside-out forward fit perfectly toward the modern game. Niare knocked down at least a trio of catch-and-shoot 3s in the championship game, while also showcasing a dribble-drive skillset that seems to grow more polished with each passing day. While still a tad undersized for his hybrid '4' position at higher levels, Niare's increasingly consistent production and steadily evolving skillset have him looking more and more like a lock for the D1 level.

Mostly under the radar while playing within the public school sector, Swangin really caught the eye as a prospect who could make a notable splash on the MoCo scene as an upperclassman. A bigger guard with great length and wiry strength, the southpaw was dynamic attacking off the bounce with elite quickness at the point of attack. He showed the ability to execute slick finishes in traffic with his primary hand and made solid reads as a playmaker once the defense collapsed on him in the paint. We didn't see Swangin tested as a jump shooter, and would like to see him handle ball pressure a bit more responsibly as a lead guard, but the upside and downhill talent were evident and we look forward to seeing more of him in the future.

The frontcourt half of a dynamic 1-2 punch that proved too much for the entire rest of the MADE 16U circuit, Wucherpfennig had stretches of dominance to help lead the Beasts to the MHC title. Known as a bruiser on the interior, Wucherpfennig certainly hasn't abandoned his bread and butter, but showed enticing flashes of an expanded skillset out toward the perimeter that could open up an even higher upside for him as a long-term prospect. He doesn't ever need to be a wing, but the glimpses of ballhandling and playmaking that he showed as a complement to his work inside could make him one of the more versatile frontcourt prospects in the region within his class. Couple the expanding skillset with Wucherpfennig's unabashed energy, competitiveness, and physicality and you have the makings of a bona-fide D1 prospect with upside to attract attention from the higher levels.

Despite a nailbiting loss, Melniczak put together a strong performance in the championship game that served as a fitting culmination to a strong week to cap his summer. More of a steadying game manager this past winter with his high school game, the lead guard showed a more dynamic arsenal as an individual playmaker. He was particularly effective as an aggressive bomber from long range, helping to open up the floor with smooth quick-release jumpers from well beyond the arc. Melniczak's ability to mesh with other playmakers and consistently push the right buttons as a scorer or playmaker bodes well for his translation to the next level. We'll be eager to see if he's able to carry the same aggressiveness into the high school season.

His team took a tough loss to close the summer but Sherman nonetheless stood out with his well-rounded skillset up front. Sherman impressed as a faceup threat, showing soft hands and touch operating from the rim out to the midrange. He finished inside efficiently through traffic using either hand, showing a deft set of post moves to utilize against smaller defenders. Sherman plays strong, using his wide frame to his advantage, but isn't the quickest and could struggle defending the rim or moving laterally on the perimeter at the scholarship level. Nonetheless he projects as a coveted small-college piece with his size and offensive versatility, and should be heard from at the varsity level as an upperclassman.

A new name on the radar, Kovacevic caught the eye in the 16U championship game as a skilled frontcourt piece to keep tabs on moving forward. The Serbian native who's been in the U.S. for less than two years showed a noteworthy blend of sheer size and an inside-out skillset. He uses a broad, thick frame to establish position inside for postups or dumpoffs while rebounding his area effectively on both ends of the floor. Kovacevic carves out great space while playing well through physicality as a rugged interior presence. He also flashed a workable pick-and-pop stroke out to the arc. While not the swiftest athlete, his size and skillset should certainly allow for him to emerge onto scholarship-level radars as he continued to establish his resumé in the States.
