Chase Lumpkin is a prototypical shooting guard who simply knows how to get a bucket. He scores from all three levels and gets to his spots very efficiently. Once he gets where he wants to go, he’ll elevate for his shot and displays good balance. Which helps him hit in triples and mid-range shots often. Lumpkin’s craftiness also opens the door for him to get all the way to the rack, and he occasionally draws contact. His length and speed come in handy on the defensive end as well, where he marks his man and contests shots.

One of the top guards on the EYBL circuit, Lumpkin averaged an impressive 16.7 points and 6.4 assists per game for JET Academy while consistently producing against elite competition. A talented and highly skilled ball handling guard with excellent size for the position, he has the ability to impact the game as both a scorer and playmaker. Lumpkin is a true three level scorer who can knock down shots from beyond the arc, create offense in the midrange, and finish effectively at the rim. He is a reliable shot maker, comfortable scoring both off the catch and off the dribble, and possesses the vision and passing ability to consistently create opportunities for teammates. An above average athlete with strong basketball instincts, Lumpkin combines production, skill, and versatility at a high level.

In a setting with so many elite prospects who are used to dominating the game with the ball in their hands, it’s certainly an adjustment for a lot of kids to play as a complimentary piece. Give credit to Lumpkin who fit in perfectly as a wing who moved without the basketball, made the extra pass and looked like a high feel player within a system. While I liked how Lumpkin moved without the ball and didn’t force the issue, Lumpkin also made some plays late in the shot clock that stood out because you want your wings to be able to create for themselves in those half-court situations when the offense stalls. Also able to hit a catch and shoot 3-pointer, Lumpkin was a clear stock riser this weekend.

He thrives in transition where his stride and explosiveness shine, but his half-court game has taken a noticeable step forward. A professional scorer, Lumpkin is a deadly shooter particularly from deep, and his ability to attack closeouts makes him tough to guard. He rebounds well for a guard and can guard multiple positions thanks to his length. When he’s locked in, he changes the game on both ends with his activity and athleticism.
