About Chappelle
Expert Analysis
Brady Kennedy | Prep Hoops Scout
Whitney had himself a day scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He did an unbelievable job attacking the paint and getting to the rim. He had a game high 10 free throw attempts which really was the difference in the game. It seemed like every time he touched the ball he was giving Ashland’s defense problems. Played extremely hard and came up huge for them.

Whitney has been one of the biggest stock boosters in the Commonwealth this season and was awarded with the 4th region player of the year award. Chappelle plays super hard and is active on both ends of the floor. He has the ability to switch multiple positions on defense and can score in multiple ways on offense.

Whitney had the best performance I saw on Saturday. Even while battling foul trouble, Chappelle put up 26 points and did it efficiently as he shot almost 60% overall. He was able to get to the rim and finish and also hit two threes and hit 8-9 from the free throw line, including the makes that iced the game. Even down a starter, Warren Central controlled the game against Western and showed why many have them as a favorite to get back to Rupp and maybe win it all in 2023.

A big wing who has been under the radar until the last year or so, Chappelle has recently earned multiple offers and is the type of athlete who goes to the Juco level for a season or two and ends up finishing his career at the mid major D1 level. Regardless of his college destination, Whitney should be a big part of the Dragons offense this season.

Versatile wing with good 3pt range. Very good 3pt shooter off the catch when he gets his feet set. Operates well in the mid post backing guys down using his length to score over defenders. Not overly quick but good scoring thru contact. Could be a good “3 and D” guy at the next level.

One of the more overlooked players in the class, Whitney holds a couple of D2 offers now and has the long term upside that coaches love to see. He’s long and athletic and could be the X factor in the state title chase.

Whitney is an overlooked prospect on one of the state’s best teams. A big wing with skill and the ability to defend, Chappelle fits the mold of a two way wing who can play above the rim on offense and is able to switch and guard multiple positions on the defensive end. Warren Central is loaded with talent in the 2023 and 2024 classes and Whitney is another Dragon prospect who deserves long looks from schools.
