Expert Analysis

Brooks took a small tumble down the rankings after an ACL tear ended his Senior season early. Caleb still has a lot of basketball left to play and could ultimately be more of a stretch 4 in college than the 5 man he’s shown most of his high school and AAU career. Don’t be surprised if Brooks signs somewhere this Spring and ends up making an impact as a freshman.

Brooks is an impressive player. Standing at 6-9 most coaches would limit him to staying around the basket, however he plays all over the floor and has guard like skills. Very good 3pt jump shooter off the catch. Love him in pick and pop situations where he is a threat to both shoot and drive. Does a good job drawing fouls and making free throws. Attacks the glass on both ends. Really like him as a stretch 4 at the next level.

Brooks is a versatile big man that can play both on the perimeter and in the post. Pick and pop threat and more than capable shooting from 3pt off the catch. Can put the ball on the floor in the open court to lead the break. Fluid athlete that moves well for his size. As he gets stronger, he will become more of a threat around the basket but a very interesting prospect to keep an eye on.

Brooks is a high academic 5 man who has an array of post moves and is comfortable shooting from range but can be guilty of settling for jumpers sometimes. Caleb has become a much better rebounder in the last year or so and is a very effective rim protector and rebounder. His recruiting should pick up.

Brooks has been grossly under-recruited in my opinion as 6’9 kids with the ability to play above the rim or step out and hit threes don’t grow on trees in Kentucky. Caleb is an excellent rim protector and one of the best bigs in Kentucky when his motor is running hot.

Legitimately 6’9 with wingspan to match, Brooks has D1 written all over him but hasn’t seen those offers come his way yet. He’d be a steal for a good D2 or NAIA school at this point.
