Expert Analysis

Shepherd is one of the best shooters in the state but is also hitting over .400 on the baseball field this season. I think Brayden can get scholarship looks as a combo guard and he’s already been offered for baseball.

A big time shooter coming off of a run to the 15th region championship, Shepherd scores the ball in big bursts. Brayden is a two sport star who excels on the baseball field as well but I think he can be a scholarship level player if he gets in front of the right coaches.

This Johnson Central team has no shortage of guards. Shepherd is a fantastic ballhandler. He also has a knack for finding the open man, whether it be in the open floor or in half court offense. Brayden is averaging 20 PPG and is shooting 81% from the charity stripe on the season.

Brayden Shepherd Brayden Shepherd 6'2" | CG/PG Johnson Central | 2027 State KY is 40-for-98 from beyond the arc this season, good for 40.8% and 2.4 three-pointers per game. Shepherd makes a consistent impact with his shooting, capable of heating up quickly and extending his range well past the line. His ability to score from deep forces defenses to stay attached, opening the floor for others. He plays with clear confidence, particularly in his pull-up game. That scoring ability was on full display in the 2A Region Championship, where he poured in 37 points and knocked down eight triples.

Brayden Shepherd Brayden Shepherd 6'2" | CG/PG Johnson Central | 2027 State KY ranked fourth in the state last season in threes made per game at 3.8, while finishing third in percentage at 48.8% and reaching the 100 made mark. He’s not just one of the best shooters in Kentucky — he’s also one of the most efficient. Shepherd is a strong overall scorer with deep range and the ability to knock down contested shots. He gets his feet set quickly, stays balanced on his release and can score both coming to the ball and off the catch.

One of the top shooters in the state, Shepherd knocked down nearly half of his three point attempts as a Sophomore. Brayden is known for his baseball abilities but is likely a scholarship level prospect in basketball as well. There is not a better duo in the mountains than Shepherd and Slone.

Brayden may be the best pure shooter that I’ve seen in the class so far. As a Sophomore, he averaged 22 points per game and shot 49% from three. Known more for his baseball prowess than his basketball skills, I’m not so sure that Shepherd shouldn’t be holding multiple scholarship offers on the court before all is said and done. He’s a name to monitor this season for regional colleges and if he shoots 49% from three again, he may attract even more schools soon.

Another big time shooter. Hard to imagine a player who averaged 22 points per game and shot 49% from three being overlooked but Shepherd fits that bill. He should be a scholarship level specialist and continues improving his all around game.
