At 6-foot-6, Cook impacts the game in a variety of ways without forcing the action. He can score from the perimeter, operate in the mid-post, and finish around the basket when opportunities present themselves. His shooting stretches defenses, but what stood out most was his basketball IQ. He cuts with purpose, sets solid screens, makes timely passes, and understands spacing better than many players his age. Cook simply understands how to play team basketball, and coaches tend to love players who make the game easier for everyone around them.

The shooting grabs your attention first because that’s the obvious skill.

Then you start noticing the cuts, the screens, the timing, the spacing and the basketball IQ.

The little things matter.

Cook understands how to create advantages without dominating the basketball. He plays within structure and rarely forces the issue.

At 6-foot-6 with perimeter shooting and feel, there’s a lot to like here.

Brayden Cook Brayden Cook 6'6" | CG/PG St. Johns | 2029 State MI brought slashing ability from the wing. He likes to cut, get downhill off the catch, and attack the basket. Cook also played the passing lanes well, showing defensive instincts and activity.

Watched Cook play in early morning Sunday matchup and he provided assets in multiple avenues. Has length and lateral movement to guard in the paint and challenge on the perimeter. I tallied at least 4 clean blocks in the first half alone while anticipating in the passing lanes and causing disruption. Offensively runs the floor with a settled intensity to create primary break opportunities. Comfortable finishing in traffic or dishing off once help comes. Showed passing skill with several quality assists in the open floor. Overall brings a strong disciplined feel with layered effort. Helped team to the championship 15U game out of 70+ teams.

B. Cook is 6’5 and smooth with it. He is nice on the offensive end as a steady scoring threat in every which way and he seems to understand the game of Basketball to a T when it comes to the X’s and O’s. Sometimes a team just needs a bucket getter, who has a real natural feel for the game and that’s Cook. He was a standout in every contest his group play at this event and I’m sure that’s a consistent them every weekend on the road with his mixture of size and skill.

Cook is one of the best next level prospects we saw this past weekend, he possesses a lot of interesting tools at an early stage. The 2029 wing has legit outside touch with an aggressive nature in his game when it comes to getting downhill with the basketball in his hands where he’s a really strong above the rim finisher. Cook is constantly looking to finish above the rim and uses his quick first step to get by the initial defender and he’s more than capable of finishing above the rim in traffic. Cook can guard multiple positions defensively and provides consistent ball pressure when guarding the ball. It’ll be interesting to track his development as he clearly has a high upside in the 2029 class. I fully expect him to establish himself as a bonafide next level prospect over the course of his high school and travel ball career.
