I’ve been hot and cold on Blake in his career but my last impression of him was his best one. Moving from 77th to 51st, Russell was outstanding for Ballard this summer and was the best player on the court in their game against Danville Christian Academy. Blake has some good skills and a solid motor. He needs to be drawing coaches from regional schools.

For as disappointing as the DCA bigs were when I watched, I was super impressed with Russell. He played the best that I’ve seen him play on Friday morning and dominated the two DCA posts who each were taller than him. Blake finished very well around the rim and had a big scoring and rebounding game.

Russell is an explosive athlete with impressive scoring ability. When he gets around the basket he can shoot over his defender or sky for a dunk. If the defense gives him too much space, he can knock down a mid-range jump shot. His length and athleticism allow him to aggressively contest and block shots.

Another big with potential to break out as a Junior, Russell is skilled and can step out and make jump shots. Blake played a very small role for Fairdale last season but should be expected to be a big contributor these next two years. Russell also claims a 4.0 GPA which should help him draw the attention of college coaches in the next two seasons.

A bit of a sleeper in the 2025 class, Russell looks like he could have a breakout season for Fairdale this winter. Blake had a strong showing on Saturday when he nearly had a double double against Griffin Elite UA Rise and showed some potential as a scholarship level player down the line.
