Jackson is far from a role player for Academy of Science as he is averaging 10.8 points and 5.7 rebounds for the Novas. But when defenses spend all their energy trying to slow

, Jackson steps up and slashes to the basket for baskets of the high flying variety. His athleticism, quickness and aggressiveness off the bounce as big factors in Academy of Science winning 23 of 24 contests this winter. And at 6-foot-4, Jackson has the size and length to score over most defenders. Jackson also can guard players of different size, giving Academy of Science some versatility in its defensive schemes.

Without question one of the state’s top uncommitted seniors, Jackson always competes with fire in his eyes. He did so again Milwaukee Academy of Science’s exciting 91-85 overtime victory over Warren Township. Using his speed in the open court and aggressiveness in the half court, Jackson repeatedly got to the basket, and he used his stellar pivoting and jumping ability to shed defenders and score. He finished the contest with 16 points before fouling out. Jackson has the size, quickness and mindset to become a lockdown defender at the next level, and his offense is coming along at a steady pace as well for coach Agape Keys’ squad, which improved to 15-1 with the triumph.

One of the most explosive athlete in the state, Amare was a key reason why MAS held off Eau Claire Memorial on Thursday. Defensively he’s used to guard a number of spots on the floor, as he can move his feet with just about anyone, and has some length at 6’4 to get a hand up and contest shooters. When he was able to get out in the open floor he was just about automatic, as he can streak ahead and then fly to the rim for acrobatic finishes. With

ice cold in the first half, Amare’s finishing ability way key for MAS until Batemon got going in the second.

If Amare continues to defend like he did on Sunday, he’ll have a legitimate case for best defender in the state this winter. At 6’4 he has the size to defend all over the floor, and is an elite athlete who can move his feet on the perimeter or explode off the floor to block shots. Against Tosa West he was causing disruptions with his ball pressure, forcing multiple turnovers at the half-court line by moving his feet with smaller guards. Offensively he was finding success finishing inside, and was opening up looks with his off-ball cuts, hustle in transition, and straight line drives.

He approached each game like he had something to prove.
He is clearly one of the top athletes in the tournament. His hustle and grit was apparent on Saturday. Jackson is fast from baseline to baseline and can elevate over the top of defenders in a heartbeat. His speed at the wing position allowed for MAS to have a very solid showing at the Tune-Up.
