Ahmir Woods
About Ahmir
Expert Analysis
Max Wagner | Prep Hoops Scout
Ahmir has one of the best pull-up jumpers in Wisconsin. With a very long/wiry frame, he has a high release point that makes it tough for defenders to contest when he gets to his spots. Plays with a ton of confidence, and is always in attack mode offensively. Against Power Circle he drained a handful of outside jumpers, and also got to the rim to make plays off two feet. Defensively he swatted some shots at the rim using that impressive wingspan to make plays on that end as well.

Pride Roc Bynum used the poise, length, decision making and scoring of Woods to slip past Manitowoc United Black in a spirited 17U contest. Woods, a 2025 prospect who recently committed to Illinois Valley Community College, continues to take positive strides in his game. The lanky combination guard is starting to get stronger and fill out a bit, and that has helped him finish in the lane when he gets bumped off stride. With his best basketball still ahead of him, it’s nice to see Woods continue to take steps forward with his physical development.

After a relatively quiet first half, Ahmir came alive in the second half in a matchup with Team Herro . The 6’3 senior hit a couple of threes, got to the rim for a handful of transition buckets, and after bringing his team back into the game, drove through just about the entire defense for a go-ahead bucket with under a minute to play. Woods would then hit a pair of free throws to secure the win for his team. Ahmir has such a long frame, with a high release point that makes it difficult to contest when he’s able to get to his spots for a pull-up jumper.

Woods showed impressive athleticism, playing above the rim on both ends of the court. He uses his length and leaping ability to disrupt opponents who drive the lane and will get up for rebounds when around the hoop. He is a combo guard who can shoot it from outside or attack the basket. He had a smooth rebound and put-back early and then let loose with a two-handed flush and a powerful one-hand throw-down on fast breaks later in the game.

Woods is a player who grows on you. Watch him once and you might think he’s just too thin to make a real difference in a game. Watch him again and come away thinking, he’s much better than I originally thought. Watch him a third and fourth time, and you quickly realize he is a player with a smooth jump shot, impressive length, a willingness to defend, and an improved passing game. In short, Woods is a player who does a bit of everything. He is still slight of frame, but as the 6-foot-3 combination guard continues to fill out, he is going to become an even better player as he will be able to absorb physical contact better. Woods teams with

Ahmir showcased his versatile scoring package yesterday for Pride Roc . He has a long and lanky 6’2 frame, and has no problem creating his own shots off the dribble. Ahmir is at his best getting into his mid-range pull-up off of one or two dribbles, where his length and high release point make it difficult to contest his jumper. Moves very fluidly on the ball making him unpredictable as he mixes in crossovers and hesitation moves to get to his spots. Does a nice job of playing off two feet around the basket to go up balanced when he looks to finish.

Ahmir looks ready for a big time junior season at Golda Meir. He’s been impressing with some big performances all fall, including over the weekend in Appleton. The long and lanky guard is a gifted space creator, and all game long he was creating separation from his defender to get off mid-range shots. Really good change of speed with the ability to cover a lot of ground in one stride. Steps on to the court with the mentality that no one can stop him from putting points on the board.

was making plays on both ends of the floor for Golda Meir. He’s a long and lanky guard who changes his speeds well on the ball to attack and get to the rim. Has some explosive athleticism, and combined with his long frame he’s able to finish comfortably against size. Looks like he’s been improving on the perimeter as well as he was confidently pulling up for some three point makes off the dribble. Defensively his long frame and agility allows him to guard a variety of spots on the floor and cause disruptions up in the passing lanes.
