Dufault led the Heat to a 40-3 record last spring/summer and a number one ranking in Minnesota, Ryan pushed the Jays to the Class AAA state championship game as a sophomore, and he had Waseca at 25-5 on the year and in position to push for a Class AA title as a junior. Now Ryan is working on his game on his own during the current down time.
“During this pandemic I have been very fortunate to have a church with a gym inside so I am going there about five times a week to put some work in,” Ryan said. “Malik (Willingham), Kyreese (Willingham), Nick (Dufault), and me all go to the gym together and we get some 2 on 2 games going after we do our workouts and I feel like that is improving my game a lot.”
If the 17u season ever hits the gym this summer Ryan will be leading the red and black once again.
“I am going to play with Minnesota Heat if the season resumes. I am working with my brother Nick, Malik, and Kyreese on a regular basis. I also am working with a trainer in Mankato.”
Within those individual workouts what is Ryan focused on?
“I am working on my right hand a lot and I am also focused on getting stronger.”
As likely the best true lead guard lead guard in his class, Ryan is of course receiving a lot of attention from college coaches.
“I am hearing from Minnesota-Duluth, Bemidji State, Minot State, University of Mary, St.Thomas, and St.Johns, I also have heard from Sioux Falls, and Southwest Minnesota but not for awhile,” Dufault stated. “I went on a virtual with Bemidji State and with St.Johns this week. No visits before that though.”
Another goal for the Waseca lead guard is to find a college program that fits his ability.
“I just want to find the right school that fits my style or game. I like to run and score in transition, I also love ball screen offense. In terms of academics I just want to get the best education for me and sometime basketball will come to an end so hopefully the school I go to can help me be successful.”
