Anthony Lucente, Lowellville
An MVAC Second Team All-Conference player in his first season of high school basketball, Anthony Lucente played a pivotal role in Lowellville’s success this year. A 6-foot-2 freshman, Lucente averaged 15.7 points and finished a couple of games pacing the Rocket offense from the field.
Bede Lori, Caldwell
A third team Division IV selection, Bede Lori enjoyed one of the most impressive seasons by a freshman in quite some time. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 21.7 points this season for Caldwell and didn’t shy away from taking over games late in the season. He was able to get to the basket with ease at times and can finish well near the rim for such a young player.
Kyler D’Augustino, Albany Alexander
A guard who made his presence known within Southeast Ohio, Kyler D’Augustino handles the ball well for his size and averaged 15 points per game this season. He’s got a solid jump shot and can develop into one of the best guards in the area after just scratching the surface as a freshman.

Maybe the player with the most potential thus far in the 2023 class, Rayvon Griffith Rayvon Griffith 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #78 Nation AZ didn’t look like an ordinary freshman out on the floor at times throughout the season. Standing 6-feet-5, he’s got the length and athleticism that separates himself from all the other freshman in his class.
Gabe Cupps Gabe Cupps 6'1" | PG Centerville | 2023 State #80 Nation OH , Centerville
A true competitor, freshman guard Gabe Cupps Gabe Cupps 6'1" | PG Centerville | 2023 State #80 Nation OH enjoyed a season where he made second-team All-State for Division I and averaged 10.3 points this season for Centerville. The 6-foot guard helped lead his team to a district championship and the impact he made on the other guys around him was noticeable this season. Expect many more big things from the upcoming freshman in the state of Ohio for the next three years.
Evan Ipsaro, New Richmond
Winning SBAAC co-player of the year, freshman Evan Ipsaro didn’t waste any time putting up big numbers in a short period of time. In fact, in the first game of his high school career, Ipsaro helped lead his team to a win, culminating 27 points, nine assists and nine steals during the 88-41 win against Villa Madonna. The 5-foot-11 guard can score in a variety of ways and he’s a player that’s going to be worth keeping an eye out for as he’s set to make another splash his sophomore season.
Khoi Thurmon Khoi Thurmon 6'1" | PG Buchtel | 2023 State OH , Copley
Not afraid to put the team on his back as a freshman, Khoi Thurmon Khoi Thurmon 6'1" | PG Buchtel | 2023 State OH was able to help turnaround a sluggish start to the season for Copley with key players missing games with injuries. The 6-foot freshman went on to average 16.9 points per game for the Indians during a season filled with growth on the court. Thurmon handles the ball well and even took on opposing teams’ best players on the defensive side of the ball throughout the year for a team headlined with underclassmen.
