- Dior Davis Dior Davis 6'0" | PG Springfield Commonwealth | 2022 State New E PG Murry Bergtraum 15-0. In fifteen games Dior racked up 237 total assists. Dior averages 26.4 PPG. & 15.8 APG. St. Francis BK, Manhattan College, and Morgan State have offered Dior. With a 2-0 record in the postseason so far, Dior has a shot to win a city title. Murry Bergtraum is ranked second in the “A” division. A city title will grant Murry Bergtraum’s first undefeated season in school history.
2. Azriel Almodovar Bronx Law Gov’t & Justice (12-6). Mr. Triple-Double himself has the second-most assists in NYC. For the regular season, Azriel has a total of 147. Azriel averages 26.5 PPG. 10.3 RPG & 10.5 APG. Being the 18th seed in the “B” division, Bronx Law & Gov’t will have a tough task. Azriel will have to take things up a notch. As a senior, his time is now.
3. Kadeem Palicide Tilden Campus (12-6). Kadeem has cemented his self as one of the top players this season. Kadeem recorded 137 total assists for the season. Kadeem has passing ability but can score the ball also. Kadeem’s Stateline for the season is 25.6 PPG. & 7.6 APG. Tilden is the 22nd seed in the “A” division playoffs. So far Tilden is 2-0 in the postseason. They upset 11th seed Brandeis HS by 1 point. Tilden Campus has the personnel to reach the finals.
4. Joel Koryor Susan S. Mckinney (11-7). Joel is averaging a strong double-double with 16.5 PPG. & 13.5 RPG. However, he is still one of new york city’s premier passers. Joel has 4th most with 125 total. Mckinney has had an up and down season. The kings did enough to make the postseason. The kings are seeded at 29 in the “A” division. Joel has the ’it” factor to make some noise in the postseason.
5. Danbaki Abbass Harry S. Truman (8-7). The Mustangs have had a rough season. Competing the Bronx AA is not an easy task. The league has been dominated by Eagle Academy & Wings Academy. The Mustangs held on tight enough to make the postseason. This playoff berth was led by Danbaki. Danbaki is a pure leader displaying what leadership and sacrifice are all about. Danbaki averages 4.0 PPG. 5 RPG. & 8.2 APG. The numbers don’t jump out at you, but Danbaki recorded the 5th most assist in the entire city. The mustangs do not have enough to make a run this postseason, but every team needs a Danbaki.
The pass is just as important as a basket. Rebounds lead to possesions. Possesions lead to assists. Assists lead to baskets. Stats in the game of basketball go hand and hand. Players cannot accomplish one thing without the other. Assists are the most neglected stat in basketball. This is the time to recognize the value of an assist. Running an offense is the foundation of any team. Wing players and pivot players need a good passer to be successful. The distributor is the coach on the floor.
