This will be where many favorite to win the Tournament of Champions will play. When teams take the floor, they will be led by some big name talent. Here are the top impact performers heading into the tournament.
Will Richardson Will Richardson 6'2" | PG Bergen Catholic | 2022 State #76 Nation NJ (2022) | Bergen Catholic
Richardson has turned into a huge leader for Bergen Catholic. They were the runners-up in the TOC’s last season and could win it all this season led by Richardson. He is scoring 16.2 points per game as a sophomore. Richardson has scored 20 or more points 12 times. Richardson is part of a big three with fellow sophomore Julian Brown Julian Brown 6'1" | PG Bergen Catholic | 2022 State NJ and Notre Dame commit Matt Zona Matt Zona 6'9" | PF Bergen Catholic | 2020 State #200 Nation NJ .
Mark Armstrong Mark Armstrong 6'2" | PG St. Peter's Prep | 2022 State #39 Nation NJ (2022) | St. Peter’s Prep
Armstrong is another sophomore sensation. He is scoring just over 19 points per game and has finished in double-figures in all 25 games he has played. Armstrong has eclipsed 20 points 12 times this season including a 33-point performance against Montclair early in the season. Armstrong is a true difference maker and a reason St. Peter’s Prep could get hot in this tournament.
Nazir Williams Nazir Williams 6'0" | PG St. Joseph (Montvale) | 2021 NJ (2020) | St. Joe’s (Mont.)
St. Joe’s is fresh off a Bergen County Jamboree title. They took down Bergen Catholic in the championship behind 26 points from Williams. This is his second 26-point performance in the last three games. Williams has been an elite shooter this season and uses his speed to get in the lane. Confidence means a lot and Williams has this team playing at such a high level at the right time.
Jonathan Kuminga Jonathan Kuminga 6'8" | SF Patrick School | 2020 #1 Nation NJ (2021) | The Patrick School
This may be the best team in the state. Kuminga leads The Patrick School into the state tournament after picking up their third win of the season over Roselle Catholic in the Union County Championship. Kuminga is ESPN’s No. 1 ranked player in the Class of 2021. This is his first season at The Patrick School and it can be a special one. He is a generational player that is expected to be something special at the next level and beyond.
Zach Martini Zach Martini 6'7" | PF Gill St. Bernard's | 2020 State #349 Nation NJ (2020) | Gill St. Bernard’s
Gill St. Bernard’s is still trying to wash the taste out of their mouths from a semi-final loss to Watchung Hills in the Somerset County Tournament. Princeton commit Martini will get their minds right as they enter the Non-Public B North bracket as the No. 1 seed. Martini has been a walking double-double for his team. This is his final season before heading to the Ivy League and Gill St. Bernard’s has a chance to win a state title.
Niels Lane Niels Lane 6'5" | PG Roselle Catholic | 2020 State #72 Nation NJ (2020) | Roselle Catholic
A lot of talk surrounding Roselle Catholic has been centered around C.J. Wilcher and Cliff Omoyuri. Lane has missed time this season but he is back to remind everyone what he can do. Lane has scored in double-figures in every game since returning to action. He finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a UCCT win over Summit. The Florida commit is one of the best athletes in New Jersey and the Lions are immediate contenders with him on the floor.
Elijah Barlow Elijah Barlow 6'1" | CG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2021 State NJ (2021) | Union Catholic
It has been an up-and-down season for Union Catholic. They were viewed as a team that could make some noise coming into the season and Barlow will look to do so in the state tournament. Barow stepped into a leadership role this season and became an elite scorer for Union Catholic. He is a point guard who can do it all. Barlow has been a strong shooter but he thrives at getting to the rim and using his craftiness to score.
