4A Playoffs: Sweet Sixteen Sharpshooters

With the sweet sixteen coming up this week, we take a look at some of the top sharpshooters from distance. First, we will look into 4A and the top shooters still remaining in the playoffs. Mead - <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/will-maher/">[player_tooltip player_id="915339" first="Will" last="Maher"]</a> & <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/elijah-knudsen/">[player_tooltip player_id="918902" first="Elijah" last="Knudsen"]</a> Mead is a very balanced team with shooters all around. They have multiply players who shoot the ball from distance led by Maher who is averaging:14.6 PPG shooting 56% from behind the three point arc (66/118) and Knudsen a sophomore is (66/159) for 42% and averages 11.9 PPG for the first place Mead team. Maher is one of the top floor generals in the state and is able to create for himself and his teammates, his 4.8 assists per game leads the team. He is a high IQ guard that can hurt the opposing teams with his scoring and passing, he’s a strong ball handler being able to go strong both directions. He is having one of the best years in the state from behind the arc. Knudsen is a young guard learning behind the right guy in Maher, Knudsen is an excellent shooter himself and get it done in every way. He can score off the dribble, plays well off of the ball, and has good range. He is in for a very strong career with Mead and will be a player to keep an eye on going forward. Pueblo West - Jimmy Wardle & Xavier Hatch Pueblo West has a couple of different players who shoot the ball well from deep for them, Wardle is (65/156) for 42% from behind three-point arc and is averaging: 12.2 PPG. He leads the team in attempts from distance on the year and in his career he is shooting it 43% from deep. His 12.2 points per game is second on the team. Hatch is another option for them from distance, the junior is shooting 43% going (43/101) on the season averaging 7.6 PPG. They will face-off on the road against Harrison. Harrison - <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/tayzhean-archuleta/">[player_tooltip player_id="916963" first="Tayzhean" last="Archuleta"]</a> Archuleta leads the way for Harrison from behind the arc, shooting (54/159) for 34% averaging 12.2 PPG on the season which is second on the team. The junior has good size at 6’4 and is able to rise up and score with is jump shot, he had 16 points in their first playoff victory over Sierra. He is a volume shooter, and can heat up from distance at any given moment. Last season as a sophomore he played in twenty-six games, shooting 41% on the year from deep (55/133). He also makes the right play when the shot is not there, his 3.3 assists per game leads his team. Silver Creek - Andrew Duquette Duquette leads the team in scoring this year at 18.7 PPG, shooting (48/108) for 44% from long range. He entered the playoffs scoring double figures in the last seven games of the regular season. His season high of 36 points came midway during the season getting the win over Thompson Valley, shooting seven of nine from deep. He is a guard that can score from all from levels and will make the defense pay from deep. Last season as a junior he shot 41% from three-point range (33/81). Pueblo East - <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/kyle-miller/">[player_tooltip player_id="917012" first="Kyle" last="Miller"]</a> Miller is a 6’4 junior who is shooting 31% from deep on the year going (47/154), averaging: 11.0 points per game which is third best on the team. Last season as a sophomore he played in twenty-seven games for Pueblo-East averaging 6.6 PPG shooing 36% from distance (38/106). He is a player that is diverse with his size and shooting ability from deep, he is also a strong rebounder as well. Green Mountain - <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/austin-peterson/">[player_tooltip player_id="916981" first="Austin" last="Peterson"]</a> & <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/blake-schell/">[player_tooltip player_id="915327" first="Blake" last="Schell"]</a> Peterson the junior is averaging: 10.7 PPG, shooting 34% from distance on the year (57/169) which leads the team in attempts and makes. Peterson has made a big jump since his sophomore season and should continue to improve in all aspects going forward. Schell is the senior leader on the team who is averaging a team high 15.0 PPG, shooting (33/76) from three-point range for 43%. He is more of a threat from inside the arc but will keep the defense honest from deep as well. In his career with Green Mountain, Schell is shooting 38% from distance and 46% from inside the arc. Skyline - Adrian Compian & Gage Robertson Compian and Robertson are equal threats from distance for Skyline, Compian the junior is averaging: 11.4 PPG shooting (45/132) from deep for 34% and Robertson is one of the senior leaders on the team who is second in scoring at 13.3 PPG and shoots 34% from distance as well going (41/122) on the year. Robertson is a player who has been a strong contributor for Skyline ever since his sophomore season, as a junior he shot 36% from three-point range. Montrose - Jordan Jennings Jennings is a junior for a young Montrose team who only has two seniors on their roster. He is shooting 38% from distance on the year going (42/110). He is one of several younger players on their roster, it will be interesting to see how they grow going forward, he will need to take more of a leadership role on the offensive end next year. They have a tough matchup against Lincoln in the sweet sixteen. Glenwood Springs - Mitchell Burt Glenwood Springs is a senior led team, Burt is second on the team in scoring this year at 12.3 points per game and is shooing 44% from deep on the year going (37/85). He has made a nice stride in his shooting after shooting 21% from behind the arc last season (6/28) which has really evaluated his performance this season. He has scored double figures in fifteen games this year. He is a very strong foul shooter as well, shooting 82% from the charity strip.
