That trend continued throughout the game but St. Rose began to pull away in the second quarter. They 24-12 at halftime and held a double-digit lead for most of the second half. In the end, St. Rose won on defense. They held Shore to 32 points. Here are some players to watch as the season progresses.
Tom Turnbach | St. Rose
Turnbach has been one of the leaders for St. Rose so far this season. He has scored double-digit points in five of seven games this season including a 21 point performance against St. John Vianney. In this one, Turnbach got hot early scoring seven of his team’s nine points in the first quarter.
John Smith | Shore
Shore struggled on offense all night. St. Rose kept them off balance but Smith turned in a tough performance. He has been Shore’s leading scorer this season. He poured in 26 points in an early season win over Henry Hudson. He will be Shore’s No. 1 option moving forward and the reason they will win some games.
Kevin Tombs | St. Rose
Tombs sparked a 15-6 second quarter for St. Rose. This was where they were able to create some separation in the game. Tombs scored eight of St. Rose’s 15 second quarter points. He was able to do it from all over the floor. St. Rose is now 4-2 on the season and it is much in part because of their strong upperclassmen including Tombs.
Chris Kessler | Shore
Kessler has been one of Shore’s top players early on in the season. This continued against St. Rose. Shore has now lost their last three in a row and will try to end that streak in their next game against Holmdel. Kessler has proven that he is a scoring threat and can put up points in bunches.
Morgan Fahy | St. Rose
Fahy has taken a bit of a backseat this season early on but he is no backseat player. Fahy scored six straight points to open the second half and put this game out of reach. He will be an interesting player to watch as the season progresses. The ceiling is high and Fahy will show that. Towards the end of the season, his growth will be extremely visible.
