The 6-foot-4 wing is also a pitcher with the Bluejays, and posted a team-best 50 Ks this summer while holding opponents to just a .169 batting average.
“I’ve been getting a lot more talk from coaches with baseball, but I prefer to play basketball. I’ll probably end up going with baseball. But I’m really not sure yet,” said Nevitt.
“DMACC told me they were going to offer me next week, and I’ve been talking to a couple other schools; Central Oklahoma and then Southwestern (JuCo) have been talking to me,” said Nevitt, who detailed his basketball interest.
“For basketball I’ve been getting some D3, NAIA, and D2 stuff, like asking me to come visit. It’s not as much as I figured I’d get, but there’s a whole basketball season left so I guess we’ll see. Sioux Falls, Central Missouri, and then Dubuque, Buena Vista, Central, Simpson, Grand View, and that’s about it.”
Nevitt added: “I think I’ll end up playing baseball because I have a better chance of going farther, that’s one of the ways I look at it. But for basketball I’m hoping to get a couple offers under my belt, get some D2 looks and just shoot higher. I mean I haven’t really got much, so it’ll be exciting to see what I get.”
The good-sized and athletic wing was again impressive this offseason, particularly while playing with Perry at the Norwalk Team Camp in July.
“I’ve really been working on my ball-handling, and my shooting has been improving. Also I was working on attacking and finishing strong,” said Nevitt, who says his senior season on the hardwood will be predicated on his leadership.
“I’ll need to be a leader, that will be kind of a new thing,” he said. “And our goal is to get back to state and maybe make some noise there which we didn’t really do last year.”
