Biggest Climbers in the 2020 Class: Part IV
‘Tis tip time on the 2019-2020 regular season.
It is a perfect time to revisit the Class of 2020 rankings and adjust to account for the player’s progression, regression, or stagnation.
If you want to look at the complete rankings, smash here. A previous list of four climbers is legible here.
Climbers are either players previously undervalued or more likely players that developed their game in the last six months.
These players represent lofty climbers (upward movement listed next to arrow on right of name).
#61 Jeff Norment ⇑49
Full transparency, players do question our rankings and sometimes they are right. Jeff Norment disagreed with his #110 ranking and stated his case for a rise. His presentation through DM was sound, but wholly unnecessary as he was already elevated in our then-finished ranking update (not-yet posted) because his 17u AAU season necessitated it. Norment boasts a strong core, a grit, eagerness to put in the work. With WHBH 17u, Norment took on quality guards weekly and won the head-to-head battles more than he lost them. Bryan College offered Norment last week.
#13 B.J. Marable ⇑45
B.J. climbed from 58 all the way to the top 15 because he improved dramatically. Standing 6-foot-8, Marable is certainly tall enoguh to be a dominating factor against his private school foes. What makes him particularly attractive as a recruit is his technical game. Marable picks things up quickly and implements some into his broadening game. Verbally committed to UNC Asheville. Marable is the third Grace Christian Ram to earn a D1 offer(s) in the last two seasons. Previous teammates C.J. Gettelfinger and Grant Ledford both compete at the D1 level right now. Tough Marable was a rotation guy with them at the time, the Rams won the State Championship in 2018. Marable already had a tweener or perhaps a short forward body during the 2018 spring. Nearly two years later, Marable is more nimble and the sneaky power he possessed as a sophomore is now readily apparent to any opponent. Marable’s ceiling is enticing.
#69 Jaylon Wooten ⇑44
Two-time PrepHoopsTN Combine All-Star. Transferred into Coffee County from Riverdale this summer. Wooten’s marketable skills are guard height, handle, passing vision, and a little shooting ability. Wooten is a lefty with some silk to his game.
#59 Kavion McClain ⇑42
From #101 all the way to #59 in the state, Kavion McClain is finally getting the respect he deserves. Member of the 2018 State Runner-up Whitehaven Tigers, Kavion needed no hype to promote his high school talents. What remained unproven was his capacity for impacting a college basketball team while standing 5-foot-6. It remains a question…just not for Kavion. He simply impacts the game in too many ways now to be cast aside as a “high school talent.” Good teams want him around (Whitehaven, Bluff City GOLD). Arlington tried to get Kavion into their new basketball program, but after a summer dalliance the electric guard is again on Whitehaven. He projects as a small college/junior college point guard. McClain is the kind of player that will start immediately upon stepping on campus. He adapts quickly and can leverage his quickness advantage right away.
#51 Ty Hurst ⇑41
Carter High School star scorer Ty Hurst recently verbally committed to UNC-Pembroke. Expect him to sign. Played AAU with Team Passion.
