NBA Stylistic Comparison: 2016 Hornets Marvin Williams
Gibson shuttled to one of the best lane agility times all day. As a guard slightly shorter than 6-foot-0 tall it is imperative that Gibson Turner lean on his quickness in all situations. Guards will be taller and guards will be stronger, but few can shift those puppies like Turner. Keep those feet moving and make them chase and hunt you down. Standing still only enables slower defenders to effectively silence your game. Movement off the ball is constantly a neglected aspect of the game and Gibson is not innocent in this realm. He must make the defender work harder.
His vertical measurement was ok at 25″. Turner’s legs served him well in the physical measurement portion, though like every high school player he could improve his lateral mobility and utilize his bounce more efficiently. More specifically, Turner needs to defend the perimeter with more diligence. An in-house example of spirited, invested perimeter defending exists on Turner’s high school team: Kaine Severance. Kaine is actually shorter than Gibson, but much more scrappy. To blossom as a defender, Gibson needs to incorporate some of this grit and activate his hands more in the passing lanes and get those feet moving.
Gibson Turner comfortably rebounded in his area. He is capable of rebounding “outside his area” better. Again, the foot speed is there. Use it more often. Turner sees the ball decently off the rim. He doesn’t shy away from contact. He could tack on some “good weight” to help him finish off more and-1’s.
Stewarts Creek lists him as a forward, though Turner played at the combine largely as a 5’10″+ scoring guard.
His foot speed is nice, as evidenced by the sub 12 second time in the lane agility. Turner dashes around the court smoothly. There is a little rawness to his game, but Gibson possesses a little athleticism and a little skill that, when used frequently, give him an edge over his competition.
