Tuesday afternoon Class of 2018 wing Justin Ahrens dropped by the Columbus campus, exited with an offer and a favorite.
“”As of now it is my favorite,” said Ahrens. “But too soon to say if I’ll commit there or not.”
Justin was decent entering his sophomore season, but hard work, lifting weights, and natural physical maturity lifted him from Top 300 to Top 75 realm. He is exceptional with the ball in his hands, slashing to the basket, or running the floor.
Justin’s older brother, Kyle Ahrens competes for Michigan State. Until now Justin was operating in Kyle’s shadow. An Ohio State offer breaks that paradigm.
“It was awesome!!!”
He now knows the love of a home-state team. Further, Ahrens vaulted himself from MAC-target to Big 10-target, a massive leap.
Still two years from entering college, Ahrens just might ascend into Luke Kennard territory. The other silky lefty from the western half of the Buckeye State exploded late in his high school career, also while suiting up for King James AAU program. Kennard wound up at Duke. Though Ahrens might not get a Duke offer, he truly could become a target for all Big 10 and several ACC/Pac-12 programs.
He is that good and the growth has only just begun.
No other visits are lined up just yet.
“Not as of now,” said Ahrens via Twitter DM. “A lot of schools have been contacting me, wanting me on campus and want to watch me play in open gym.”
The skills and mental makeup provide the ideal foundation for success in this beautiful game.
