He’s currently seeing some college interest come in for both sports, though he says his football interest has been heavier.
“I’m looking at both, I haven’t really decided. I like them both alot and would be open to playing both in college,” said Finney.
“I’ve had more interest for football. But for basketball it’s been schools like Bethel (MN), Dordt, Northwestern that have been contacting me quite a bit. It’s been a lot of letters and text messages, and then invitations to like volleyball and football games,”
He mentioned Drake, St.Thomas and Bethel have reached out to him about playing football.
On the hardwood it’s his defense, and his ability to play as a true point guard that separates him from his peers. Finney averaged 4.4 assists per game last season as a junior, and swiped a team best 43 steals.
“I’d say my strengths are passing and getting everyone involved on my team, and defense is another one one of my strengths. And I can shoot a little bit too,” said Finney.
“What I’m trying to improve the most on right now is getting to the basket and finishing. I love to shoot, but attacking the basket needs to improve.”
After spending his summer with a very successful Shoot It! 17U squad, Finney now lends his efforts to the Dutch football team, and is just months removed from his final season of high school hoops.
“We lost five seniors,” said Finney, who averaged 6.0 points per game last season. “So I think this year I’m definitely going to have to be more of a scorer than I was last year.”
