<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Newton 2020 guard Jaheem Ray is gearing up for a breakout senior season after putting together a strong offseason running with Kansas Grind Elite.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A 5’8 point guard, Ray is a pass first player who takes pride in being a team player and helping his teammates succeed.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He says he spent much of the offseason working on becoming a better defensive player and improving his outside shot and says the experience of playing with the Grind helped his game grow.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Kansas Grind has helped a lot on my game,” he says. “From what I’ve been learning from coach Jay over the summer, my defense will step up this upcoming high school season.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ray says he brings a winning attitude to Newton and says his uncle has had the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“My uncle Chase has been there since day 1 and has always pushed me ever since,” Ray says.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A fan of Trae Young and Patrick Beverly, Ray says he enjoys different aspects of both player’s game.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I like how Trae runs the floor and gets his teammates involved a lot,” Ray said. “We all know Pat Bev got clamps on Defense so I watch a lot of his defensive highlights.”</span></p>
