Fundamental U played in a pair of Prep Hoops Circuit title games because they are a team that took care of the games they were supposed to win, defeated squads they were evenly matched with, and played better team basketball than those that had prospects with bigger recruits. It is the culture of Fundamental U basketball.
“When you walk into a Fundamental U practice you can tell the culture we have,” Jayden told Prep Hoops. “My teammates are always joking around and then when it’s comes time to practice we put our heads down and get to work. Then, we look at the clock and it’s already time to end practice but we all want to go for longer. It’s helped me off the court 150 percent. This experience has helped me really value the time I have together with amazing people, who love the game as much as I do.”
When culture is built it makes everybody better. If you saw Jayden Johnson play this spring or summer, you saw a hard working, confident player that made shots with the best of them.
“It has helped me become more crafty,” Jayden said about Fundamental U. “As far as shot fakes, one dribble pull ups, just doing a ton of fakes to get the defense off balanced. It just makes me want work even harder to the point where I’m puking.
“I already work extremely hard but I want to work even harder. This is the last year of everything and I don’t want to look back and have any regrets. I just want to leave it all out on the court.”
What Jayden has picked up as a student athlete playing with Fundamental U is exactly what he was looking for. Johnson wants to leave a strong legacy behind at Batavia High School and overall in Illinois High School Basketball.
“I want people to think I am a hard worker on and off the court and in the classroom. I want people to think also that I am a leader as well that people want to be around.”
Jayden Johnson is looking for a college program that shares those same type of values. “One, I am looking for fit as far as my play style., and two, relationships with coaches and players,” said Johnson when asked what’s important to him in a school.
A number of college programs continue to show Jayden a strong level of interest now in the fall.
“I’m hearing from North Dakota, UIC, Valpo, Wright State, and Furman,” Johnson said earlier in the week. “I don’t have any visits set as of right now. I would like to set up some visits for the end of September.
“It’s a wide range of schools. Those few I mentioned were the ones that have talked to me the last few days. I’m going to for sure take some visits late September. very school that has reached out to me is showing more and more interest in me each time I talk to them. Right now, my focus is to just keep getting better and stronger.”
