Deep sleepers are certainly still next level talent, and could project higher than some higher ranked, later down the road.
Here, I take a look at a few that can go!
Prospects:
• 174. Blake Lloyd (6’1” / G / CHCA / Mid Ohio Magic): Blake is a throwback guard in my opinion that is just flat out tough. Doesn’t rely on pure athleticism, and scores in different ways. This Spring Lloyd proved himself as a multi-dimensional guard that competes. Lloyd makes winning plays, hustles & fills it up at times. I like how Lloyd works without the ball, getting open, keeping the offense rolling. A tough finisher inside.
• 180. Cole Metzler (6’4” / C / Canal Winchester / Nova-Alleyne): Metzler has proven he can play at the next level, for a bit now. Metzler can rebound, plays bigger than his size, and competes. I was impressed with Metzler knowing what to do with inside touches, showing an improved IQ. But, doesn’t have to get a lot of touches to affect the game, as he does it in other ways.
• 182. Dylan Herbert (6’0” / G / Buckeye Valley): Herbert didn’t play in July, but he still comes in ranked. Showing enough during the HS season, that he can definitely play at the next level. A volume scorer with a quick first step that gets defenders off balance. Can shot it from deep, or stop and pop. Also, quick on both ends of the court.
• 186. Max Stokey (6’6” / C / Buckeye Valley / Nova-Gullick): Max competes well with other bigs, and operates with a good motor. Stokey has improved his lateral movement, it seems. Can score out of the post, gets back on defense and works the boards. Stokey will be a senior leader for the Barons this season.
• 194. Shaquan Coburn (6’2” / CG / Ontario): I didn’t see Coburn playing this grassroots season, but he impressed last high school season. The six-foot-two guard has good length and gets to the rack with ease. Not consistent, but a capable shooter when left open. Uses a long reach to deflect passing lanes, moves the ball well too.
