One of the CIML’s rising point guards, Urbandale 2018 Eric Milewsky has established himself as a fiery and aggressive competitor, with some some nice savvy and skill to boot.
The junior-to-be is going to play a pivotal role on an Urbandale squad that could turn some heads this season in Central Iowa. But it’s not just basketball where he excels; also football, baseball, and rugby.
Still, he says basketball is something he sees himself pursuing at the next level.
“Honestly I have a strong passion for football and basketball, those are my two favorite. And I’m slowly growing a passion for Rugby because that’s where I can be most aggressive. But I really plan on playing basketball or football in the future, one or the other,” said the 5-foot-9 point guard.
With two years still left in his high school career, Milewsky says his recruitment has yet to begin. But as he heads into his upperclassmen seasons with the J-Hawks, he hopes college coaches start to take notice.
“I hope that people start realizing that I can be a good team player, and I can play through adversity,” he said. “And I have a chance to play at a higher level.”
Though Milewsky is a shorter point guard, he has a nice build that he mixes with great toughness and speed. He defined his playing style to PHIA.
“Usually I focus on my teammates more than I focus on myself. If I see a guy with a better shot than me I’m going to get him the extra pass, and if I know a guy is hot I’m going to get him the ball and keep him shooting. I’m very aggressive, and I want to always win. I’m very competitive,” said Milewsky, who mentioned one specific part of his game he’d like to improve.
“I want to get my left hand so it’s just as good as my right hand.”
With football season just around the corner, Milewsky’s focus will be on the gridiron until at least October, and then it’ll shift to point guard duties.
“This year I’m going to hopefully be leading the team,” he said. “I want to make sure that everyone looks to me as a leader, and that I can help everyone get better.”
