With a smaller group of teams in the event, you got the opportunity to see teams play multiple games in a small amount of time which isn’t a bad thing at all. It’s early in the summer so teams are still figuring things out, however we learned some things about player and teams that were in the building.
- Westover can be very good when they are locked in on the defensive end! We saw them play on multiple occasions and one thing is for certain, they have the firepower on the defensive end to be a nightmare for the opposition. With multiple guards that can defend at a high level and a coaching staff that has deep knowledge of the game, the Wolverines will have a chance to be a tough squad.
- Fairmont is scrappy as usual, but bigger: The Golden Tornadoes has always been a team that gets after it on the defensive end and this year is no different. They are a scrappy bunch as usual with the only difference being they have a bit more size than they have had in the past years. It should be interesting to see how things play out for them.
- EE Smith is maturing and getting better! One of the younger squads in the area last year, EE Smith had some growing pains of course but now the team is turning the corner and building on some the positive wins they had last season. With a coaching staff that has an outstanding knowledge for the game, don’t be surprised to see the Golden Bulls have an impressive season next year.
- Northwood Temple has a new look to their squad: With the addition of 2022 Guard Jaquantae Harris, 2020 Guard Jay Hickman and 2020 Wing Reggie Raynor, the Eagles don’t have many familiar faces on their roster. However they are talented with a good amount of guards and size to go with it so it should be interesting to see how things play out for them.
- Jack Britt HS has some pieces to work with: With the departure of Calvin Washington due to graduation, look for some of the returners to step in and make a nice impact. There is not necessarily one player who will take on the scoring load but look for them to get things done by committee. When they are patient and run through their sets offensively, they are a pretty efficient team and tough to defend.
