The Class of 2018 wing helped his Iowa Barnstormers 16u team capture NY2LA Summer Jam Platinum Division Title. Ingoli scored 12 points in the final win.
Ingoli stands 6-foot-5 and currently defends at an elite level.
“Sam is the best defender I have ever coached, college level (or) high school level,” said Barnstormers 16u Head Coach K.C. Schmitt. “Sam, you just tell Sam who to get…he takes that guy right out.”
The physicality of Ingoli combines well with his determination and defensive pride. He invests.
College coaches have taken notice.
North Dakota has offered.
Early Favorite
The Downing Catholic junior-to-be camped in June, as top prospects do.
“I went to the Drake one, the Illinois State one, and the UNI one,” said Ingoli.”
Also, the wing was evaluated during his sophomore season, a testament to how developed he already is.
“Drake was there for sure,” said Ingoli. “North Dakota came through. I think Iowa State called the school. Stanford called the school asking about me.”
There are a handful of schools interested in Sam. After July he will be able to cobble together a nice recruiting foundation for the pivotal junior season.
“Probably my favorite one so far has been South Dakota,” said Ingoli. “They just said that, I want to be able to get a good four years of school in and just be able to get work in on my game. And get a shot at playing time. So far they have said they would be willing to work with me on my game. That is what I would like.”
Asked which schools he would like to hear more from, Sam inserts Iowa State.
Just over a month ago the loud June 15th day snuck up on Sam.
“You got out of morning workout and then your phone is blowing up right away,” said Ingoli. “I saw phone call, missed calls. I completely forgot it was that day, so I was like, ‘Why am I getting a missed call from California?'”
Which schools called during their first official opportunity?
“I can’t name all of them,” said Ingoli. “Illinois State, South Dakota, North Dakota, UNI, Drake. Stanford.”
He talked with numerous assistants and most continued to evaluate him in Milwaukee and now Las Vegas.
“Offensively, he needs to learn to just be a better playmaker,” said Coach Schmitt. “Eyes up earlier. Make that decision quicker. Sam is great. I love Sam.”
