Prospect Spotlight: Aaron Jasper (2021)
St. Mary’s Ryken looks like a much improved bunch so far this summer, and the steady play of Aaron Jasper has been a big reason why. Jasper has morphed into one of the most reliable playmakers you will find in the local 2021 class. He is a versatile contributor who defends at a high level and continues to improve offensively. Jasper is expected to take another step heading into what could be a breakout junior year.
“This season, I’m the leader on the floor,” he stated. “The coaches are on me about being more vocal. I’m just trying to lead this team, I think we can really do something this year.”
It looks like the Knights will once field a relatively inexperienced team, and Jasper mentioned that it will be important for him to not be afraid when it’s time to speak up. He noticed that sometimes his teammates get too high when something good happens, but its imperative that they stay even-keeled. Jasper says he models his game after one of the NBA’s best leaders.
“I watch a lot of Chris Paul. One of the best point guards,” said Jasper. “I like his decision making. One of the best decision makers.”
Jasper has received some D1 interest from Mount St. Mary’s, and took a recent unofficial visit to Loyola. With a 3.7 GPA, he should be in good position to be recruited by a wide variety of schools.
While decision making is perhaps the most improved part of Jasper’s overall game, he said he is still improving his jump shot and working on coming into every game with the same mindset.
“It’s more mental with me. A lot of coaches tell me to keep my head,” Jasper explained. “When I do that I feel like I’m one of the best players in the area.”
What is his primary goal?
“Definitely WCAC Champion. I know that’s kind of steep, but you’ve got to work for something. You’ve got to set it high.”
