To begin the week, I made my way to Columbus to catch a five team scrimmage, that showcased talent as usual.
Prospects:
• Hunter Shedenhelm (6’5” / WG 2020 / Pickerington North): Hunter Shedenhelm currently has two division two offers, which I think could grow big time. Shedenhelm has grown an inch or so, and is an absolute lockdown defender. Hunter showcased his knockdown shooting ability, getting plenty of open looks. The senior is going to be a vital piece for Pick North this winter, as expected. A true “three & D” style player, that works well in a floor spacing offense. Length to affect the perimeter is noticeable at all times.
• Casey George (5’9” / G 2021 / Pickerington North): Casey George didn’t get the most minutes last season, but when he did, he left his mark. Those minutes could go up this season, as George enters his junior year. Watching Casey, he does a good job as the primary ball handler. The lead guard has no probably getting in the lane, where he can score or kick out. Can hit a jumper when open with no problem. What stood out to me was that George loves to turn it up on offense. A strong frame despite being under six foot, on ball defense is definitely a strength.
• Taquan Simington (6’2” / G 2020 / Columbus South): Taquan Simington did what he normally does, and that’s compete at a high level. One of my favorite defenders to watch, Simington will man up with anyone. A big time vertical allows the senior to meet anyone at the rim. A quick ball handler, Simington did a good job of creating space in the offense. Has the ability to get any shot off he wants, and a transition threat that is a bucket waiting to happen.
• Von Cameron Davis (6’5” / WF 2020 / Walnut Ridge): Davis seems to have added some muscle to his frame, which could be bad news for opposing teams this winter. A big time scoring threat, Davis thrives on second chance points and inside buckets. Also, works well as a trailer on the put back. Davis is stretching his game out, and the ability to be a perimeter threat is growing. Athleticism and IQ do numbers for the senior on defense.
• Sam Barton (6’4” / PF 2020 / Columbus South): I think more people are going to know the name Samuel Barton next year. The senior played well for South last year, as a state-runner up. It looked like Barton had cut a little bit of weight, and was moving around a lot better. A physical player down low, can body up just about any inside player. The South Bulldog showed off a jump-shot, that could take his game to another level. If he continues to work on his shot, it will definitely make him a tough defend. Barton played with a motor, and competed tough in the scrimmage I watched. Really pulling for Sam Barton, as I believe the upside is there.
