The Houston Duo Shows Out
There are a lot of talented young backcourts in the state of Texas, but 2022 Bryce Griggs and 2021 Javon Jackson of Team Harden 16U are one of the best guard tandems I’ve seen so far this grassroots season. The two guards are both equipped to fill it up and in any given moment either one of them could go on a scoring frenzy. On Sunday night I witnessed the two go for 20 points apiece in a win over Warriors Elite.
Pierce Spencer Is More Than A Shooter
Pierce Spencer is known for being able to hit threes off the catch. Against Urban DFW Elite, the incoming senior Spencer displayed more than just his shooting expertise. The two guard from Sanman Academy was comfortable with the basketball in his hands and he used his deceptive speed to get by defenders for baskets at the rim. He also showed the ability to stay in front of his man and prevent him from getting to the cup.
The 2020 Big Man From Central Texas
As an evaluator, I take pride in trying to find the players that many people may not know about. This past weekend at the Adidas Gauntlet Regional Qualifier I was able to find one of those under the radar players named DeAuntre Davis of Urban Asak Elite. Davis is a big bodied post player that plays physical inside and has very good athleticism. He gets off the floor with ease and if you’re not careful he will dunk all over you. The Central Texas native has the potential to see his recruitment take off soon if he continues to play the way he did this past weekend.
